FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I often quote an hourly rate. Once a few pages of the manuscript are viewed, I can provide a "not to exceed quote." This can all be done at no expense to the client, before we decide to work together on the project in its entirety.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
If strictly editing, I like to work with track changes for simple editing. This would require you to view what I changed and accept or deny the change. If major developmental changes are needed, I will provide the client with an overview of what those changes might be before moving forward. I also provide clients with a summary of usage of terms used in the project. This is useful to clients, should they find themselves wishing to publish subsequent manuscripts on similar topics. By and large, and depending on the project, I like to be paid every two weeks for work done to that point. If there is a budget, I can pace myself to meet your financial objectives.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a managing editor of publications for a national alliance of 7 educational associations. I was responsible for books, magazines, and newsletters. I have freelanced for the past 20 years, with a preference for longer or recurring projects. My clients have included both publishers and freelance writers. I also have a certification in ESL instruction and taught for 15 years. This further helped me to analyze use of the English language. I am also a professional storyteller, and accordingly, have a good eye for narrative structure.
