About
I am the only dually licensed Acupuncturist and Chiropractor also certified in Ayurveda in the Bay Area. I spent five years learning these three different systems of medicine at the Southern California University of Health Sciences, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude from all programs and was Valedictorian of my acupuncture class. I still can't believe I get paid to do what I love - helping people reclaim their health naturally!

Dr. Ngan is a life saver. I woke up one morning with a severe kink in my neck which left me completely restricted. I called Dr. Ngan and she was able to see me the same day! She corrected the immediate issue and the provided a stretching plan that helped get back to normal over the coming weeks. I highly recommend Dr. Ngan if you are looking for a chiropractor that focuses on addressing the root problem for long term healing.

I've worked with different acupuncturists over the years, and came to Dr. Katie after we moved to the Walnut Creek area. A working mom of three young children, I was feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, isolated, underweight, and dealing with painful tendonitis from repetitive lifting of my twin babies. Through different modalities - needles, electro-currents and more - she was quickly able to get my pain in check, and through acupuncture and herbs, with her attentive guidance and expertise, I've been able to balance my mood swings, take better care of myself, and feel SO much better, more relaxed, less moody/edgy and much more optimistic. Even the hour to lay on her table in peace and quiet is a gift, however she offers so much value beyond that. She treats the whole person, asks good questions, and truly cares about helping her patients transcend their pain and live healthy and optimal lives. She's a straight-shooter, down-to-earth, interesting, warm, trustworthy, highly organized, plus...most importantly... incredibly knowledgable, intuitive and skilled at what she does. I even sent my husband to see her and now he is benefiting weekly from her wisdom, skill and care. Highly recommended!

I was referred to Dr. Katie from a colleague at work after moving to Walnut Creek from San Francisco. I came to Ahimsa during my second pregnancy to help with placenta previa as well as relieving my uncomfortable side effects. Dr Katie not only helped me relieve nausea, night sweats, anxiety, headaches, sciatica and tailbone pain, but was able to clear the issue with placenta. Beyond the physical and medical benefits, it is extremely easy to schedule appointments and Dr. Katie personalizes every appointment to help with whatever is ailing me. I look forward to continuing to go to Ahimsa once the baby arrives and continuing to feel great.

Dr. Katie is a professional, thoughtful, and skilled provider who answers all of my questions with much patience. I always leave my acupuncture appointments relaxed and feeling great. Dr. Katie is one of those rare clinicians who takes the time to know each of her patients' unique needs and I deeply appreciate her caring approach! She is highly recommended!

I have been seeing Katie sonce January 2017. I work at a desk job, and have had neck and shoulder tension for years. No masseuse I went to could help work the deep knots and issues I was having, and it was affecting my performance at work. I have always been terrified of needles, as a lot of people are, and it took me awhile to decide that I was ready for acupuncture. I enjoyed Ahimsa Wellness' website, and ability to make appointments online, to get started. Once I had a few sessions with Katie, I was feeling much better. She was able to write a doctor's note for me, and my work provided me with a standing desk (employer results may vary). The combination of the acupuncture, chiropractic care, and standing desk at work have helped me go from having daily pain, to being able to work out freely, and have my life back. I went from seeing Katie once a week, to once every month or so. She is always helpful in recommending natural lifestyle improvements, and really takes pride in her role as a health care provider. If only mainstream healthcare in America was more like the Ahimsa Wellness office...

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

After establishing a successful career in marketing and event planning, a health crisis forced me to reevaluate my lifestyle choices. Not satisfied with what conventional medicine offered, I turned to alternative medicine for answers and was fascinated by its ability to heal from the inside out. I knew then if I could help others begin their own journey towards vibrant health, I would be living my life's purpose.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Acupuncture is not limited to pain management. The World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations identifies over 40 medical conditions acupuncture effectively treats, which include migraines, allergies, digestive issues, infertility, and neurological conditions.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Like all things in nature, the body needs time to heal, especially if the disease is chronic. Please don't expect a miraculous cure after only one visit; while that is always a possibility, alternative medicine is simply another tool your body can use to fix itself. My treatments are only as effective as the efforts you make in living a healthy lifestyle. The general course of treatment is once a week for five weeks, tapering off to once every couple weeks then once a month for maintenance as needed.
