Introduction: My background with Spanish spans 19 years, 8 countries, 75 or so students taught, and countless hours of practice in a business setting, in academic classrooms, coffee shops, and while traveling. For these reasons, my Spanish has adapted and changed over the years, which my students find really helpful when planning to travel or to learn a new skill. I have had experience working for a company that specifically focuses on Spanish and English conversation with native speakers, as well as speaking to Spanish speakers on the phone and by email in Business Development and previously in Customer Service. However, I think the most unique thing about my services are that I make my students laugh, and get excited about making a plan for their own learning, which they can take with them to continue study for years after they finish the lessons. I absolutely love language, and romance languages in general. While I have currently only learned Spanish and basic French, I get to help others start their journey toward understanding what happens between the brain and the tongue, and how to think differently about the world around them. Watching a student "get it" is the most rewarding part of teaching.

Spanish Lessons

Very responsive- she setup a virtual consultation call immediately after I confirmed my availability. She designed a custom succession plan for me that includes a strategy to wean me away from her tutoring sessions which is perfect for me as I'm goal-oriented and need to make sure we were both invested in my success.

Spanish Lessons

I am continuing to work with Alyssa. She is very knowledgeable and friendly. She is always well prepared for our sessions and she has honed her lesson plans to meet my individual needs. I plan on working with her well into the future. She would a great tutor for the beginner or the business professional looking to sharpen their Spanish/English skills.

Spanish Lessons

My boyfriend and I have been working with Alyssa for about a month, and she is great! We both had some previous Spanish, but had not used it in about 10 years. She quickly determined our skill level and tailored the lessons to match what we needed to work on. She has a good understanding of Spanish grammar and also is great at practicing conversational skills. I highly recommend Alyssa!

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Yes, I do. The pricing system is listed on my website. The system uses your level, location, and frequency of lessons to determine a rate. And, similar to a gym, you can buy a punch card to avoid dealing with payment each lesson and to get a discount on the per hour rate.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a BA in Spanish language, and I graduated Cum Laude from University of Denver in 2012. I have traveled in South and Central America, and I studied abroad in Madrid in the winter of 2012. I am strongly considering Certification in Spanish Language. My current role in Customer Service calls for me to speak and write Spanish with our clients, and my past role involved teaching English and Spanish while also growing the Business Development arm of a language startup in Denver for 6 months at the end of 2014.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I actually started off with one student from Craiglist when I was working for ShareLingo, a language start-up in Denver, and found that there were people in my area looking for a private Spanish tutor. Between Thumbtack and my website, as well as personal referrals, the business grew from there, to where I have now taught close to 40 different students since last November, many of which I still meet with weekly!
