Do research! Most martial arts academies teach bullshido; it looks good and you feel like you're learning to defend yourself, but you are learning to be a paper tiger. Krav Mags is notorious for this. 99.999% of km is fraudulent. Also, be aware of McDojos. Not everyone can be a black belt. Not everyone should. If you are promoting up belts like clockwork every 2-4 months and are not getting MARKEDLY better, leave. If there are "children's belts" or "junior black belts", leave. NO ONE under 18 should be a black belt in a legitimate school!
