Hired on Thumbtack

There’s been a broken, upside down carport in my yard for weeks… they’ve promised to remove it and help with an insurance claim and nothing has been followed through!! I requested a carport and gate to be built, along with adding gravel to the driveway. Brian was motivated to come by and create a quote for the job I wished to be done. He wrote up a bid, stating a carport with siding would be built and painted to match the house; an 8 foot gate as well as pea gravel for the driveway. At first all was going well, the gate was built the very next day and they cleared out the weeds to lay the pea gravel. However, they changed it to road base to be topped with decomposed granite to prevent it from getting muddy. I was told this would be no extra charge to me. The carport kit arrived and it was just a metal frame with a heavy duty tarp to cover it. I questioned it, saying I thought we had agreed on a hard top structure- something to be painted. The employee told me that the hard top is more expensive. When I asked if the tent style port would hold up to Colorado weather (wind, hail, snow etc) I was told yes it would but it would maybe only last 3-4 years. I thought this was fine as I was wanting it done quickly and needed it to protect my tenants car from the upcoming winter weather. The employee took longer than expected to finish the job due to some personal issues, of which I was very understanding. However, he said he would come back the last day to dig a trench for the gutter the gate had blocked and that never happened. I decided to let it go because I can dig the trench myself- no big deal. I then had a friend over who said only road base was laid, and there was no decomposed granite on top. I was unfamiliar with how it should look with the decomposed granite, but I knew the importance of it because Brian explained it to me when he decided to change the order from pea gravel to road base topped with decomp. granite. The real issues started when 2 weeks after the tent carport had been installed, the wind flipped it up and over the fence. It scratched the tenants car and was nearly touching my neighbors house. I contacted Brian immediately to let him know what happened, along with sending a text to the employee who had been doing the job. Brian told me that someone would be by the next day to take care of it and no one arrived. I had to pull the carport back into my yard to prevent it from blowing further into my neighbors yard. Brian came by the following Tuesday to inspect it and gather information for the insurance claim. He told me his insurance will cover my tenants car being fixed. I told him I do not want the tent to be replaced because it had not stood up to Colorado weather as I was promised it would. I told him I wanted a hardtop carport that wouldn’t blow away in the wind. It was uncertain whether the tent carport was installed incorrectly or if the carport itself was faulty. The anchors were still in the ground, the pipe framing had separated from the anchors due to the wind. Since that day, Brian has repeatedly told me that he or one of his employees will come by to take care of the carport and no one has shown up. It has been weeks of being told “first thing in the morning someone will come by”. I have asked repeatedly for information regarding the insurance claim and I keep getting vague answers or no response. I am extremely disappointed in this service and lack of motivation to get this issue taken care of. The broken carport still sits upside down in my yard- for weeks now.

Details: Change the form or function of a portion of a room or structure • Garage • No existing plans - need design suggestions • No, the project is not covered by an insurance claim • Within the month

The remodeling they did for me was great. Every time I walk in my door I smile when I see my bathroom and bedroom. I don't have to worry about the ice on my doorstep from my old beat up gutters either. I'm very very happy with there work..
