My wife and I have enjoyed working with Andrew throughout the architectural design process of our future custom mountain home. As first time home builders, we put our design faith in Andrew and he has delivered plans that have exceeded our initial expectations. While we gave him great creative and artistic freedom with our custom design, he has listened to and implemented our many design requests as the plans have evolved. He has delivered plans that are artful, thoughtful, and efficient. We strongly recommend Andrew and his architectural expertise for your future custom home design project.Jan 2, 2018Verified
Even though we are at the earlier stages of our development, Andrew has been extremely punctual, professional, easy to work with and most of all, creative.Jun 5, 2015Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? After 30 years experience in Architecture & Interior Design Firms (18 years as a solo architect), the same contract and process won't fit every client, site/house, or project. Here are a few ways I provide my fees & services: ~ Hourly ($/HR): for undefined projects and clients who want many design options. ~ Cost/Square Foot ($/SF): for well-defined projects that can stay on schedule with a standard number of Sketch sessions and design options. ~ Combination of Hourly + Cost/SF: $/HR until the design is developed & approved, and then $/SF for the Construction Documents; ~ Percentage of Construction Cost (% of CC): best suited for clients who want full services, my active participation from design concept thru construction including details, finish selection, and site visits. A few ways to save on my fees for new houses include: ~ For an efficient process, allowing me the flexibility to create a unique design to fit you and your site or house; or ~ Look through a collection of houses i've already designed to see if any appeal to you and that could be adjusted to fit your lot. (Many of the 20 hand-colored drawings on this profile could fit flat or sloping sites.) I will add a collection of Urban Homes soon. ~ If we're a good fit, we can usually find a way to work together.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? From our first phone meeting i'll have a number of questions to help understand your goals for your project. If we feel we might be a good fit, then we'll meet at your site (your house or lot) so we can brainstorm options together to fit how you want to live there now and in the future. We'll also discuss if you'd like to take a collaborative approach with sketch sessions together or if you'd prefer that i suggest a creative design concept or 2 for your project. And we'll discuss the advantages to each. Then we'll discuss the drawing set (from Permit Set to Full-Services) that fits best for your project along with an appropriate fee type (Hourly, $/SF or % of CC). Finally, i'll prepare a proposal with all of these decisions and we'll start the design process.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Architecture. UC is an Intern School that allowed me to work alternating quarters while in school to gain valuable experience between creative quarters in class (it also allowed me to pay for my college on my own). I then attended Yale University where i received a Masters of Architecture. Grad School was a tremendous influence on developing a creative process from a wide range of professors, artists and architects. Also, as a licensed professional, the American Institute of Architects and the state of Colorado require Continuing Education, so i frequently attend Code Research, Design Conferences, Energy and Accessibility seminars. I'm also licensed in Hawaii and Nebraska which have similar Continuing Education requirements.
