I have taken several dog training classes with Helena. She is a terrific trainer, both of dogs and of their humans. She has a good rapport with animals and a gentle, patient approach. I would highly recommend her to work with your beloved pets.

Helena was an amazing dog trainer both for our rescue dog Woodrow, and for us. Her training was multi-faceted in that she trained us as much as she trained our dog. Woodrow is a rescue, and we called Helena after he developed a rather nasty biting habit. We were desperate to get help immediately, and unlike other companies in the area, Helena called us back immediately, and like us, took the issue of our aggressive dog very seriously. When other companies believed that it was "just a phase" or that a muzzle or a shock collar would be the best course of action, Helena respectfully disagreed. She proved that aggressive dogs can and will respond well to positive reinforcement and behavior modification through intense but rewarding training techniques. When we "interviewed" Helena, she met us at our house for a 90-minute consultation. She provided us with printed handouts on aggression as well as some initial training techniques to begin. We decided to go with her, which was a life-changing decision for our dog; Woodrow has improved drastically since Helena has worked with him. When we first had Woodrow, he could not be within 20 feet of a stranger without barking or growling, and now, his "bubble" has been greatly reduced. During our 8-weeks with Helena, we worked on a doorbell training routine, practiced how to be around other dogs on walks, learned what to do if a stranger approaches us on a walk, how to manage off-leash dogs, and even how to navigate when someone hugs me (he is protective, too!). She came to our house/nearby park always, which was so important as my husband and I both work full time. She was flexible with our schedules and made herself available based on our availability. Finally, her rates are very manageable and fair. It's easy to see that Helena is not concerned with gouging our paychecks for her noteworthy service--she simply wants to see dogs improve. It's refreshing! With Helena you get a true professional who will put your dog at the forefront of her practice. Without Helena, we were ready to give up on our sweet boy, but now, we have renewed hope that he can he rehabilitated for good. Thanks Helena and Training House Calls for being exactly what we needed to save our dog. Best decision ever :)

Thank you Sarah for the kind review. It was a pleasure to work with you and Woodrow and and fills me with pure joy to see how much happier he is now in this picture than when I first met him.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Step 1: We start with an initial house call to assess your pet, understand your goals, customize a training plan, and set up a discounted house calls package to help you achieve change. Step 2: Your training plan is fully customize-able and may be training sessions where your trainer coaches both you and your pet, day training sessions where your pet works intensely with your trainer or a combination or both.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
