FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Getting to know the customer is one of the first things I like to do. I want them to know that I'm relatable, that I have laughed in moments, felt awkward in front of a camera, and expected a lot out of a photographer. After, I like to talk about ideas, whether it be location or themes, and even outfits. Soon after, we get working together. The first few shots are all about getting comfortable with me. I'll ask you questions, about your passions, how you met your significant other, and even what you had for lunch. It's all about the way they felt at that exact moment in time.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied advertising, so I took a lot of classes that dealt with design, aesthetics, and even psychology. It is quite important to really understand your target audience, as well as your clients. I currently work as an art director for a hospitality company where I get to be involved from concept all the way to execution of any branding and marketing materials. I also take a lot of photos as a roaming photographer for our Chicago office, and have been establishing a look and feel for our images.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
When I was 14, I moved to the United States from Colombia. I knew not a single word of English. I struggled making new friends and keeping good grades because I couldn't communicate. I joined the yearbook staff since I have always enjoyed writing, but since my English was still in the early stages of development, I got the job of taking random photos around our campus. It was then that I truly fell in love with photography. It was then when I learned to communicate with emotions, thoughts, images. Eventually, I got my own camera and started photographing friends and family. Then it turned into bigger and bolder events. To this day, I manage to try different jobs I had never done before and push myself to be even better than I was the shoot before.
