FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Prices are, in essence, based on the number of fixtures, necessary to complete your project. We also factor in installation time/scope, as well as any special programming that may be necessary. Clients can be a bit surprised to find that their project often needs more fixtures than initially anticipated to truly get the effect desired in their outdoor living spaces. We'll always come out to do a free site preview and work with you closely to come up with a truly wonderful lighting package for your home or business. Often times even using special demo kits, which can be set up temporarily to truly give you a feel for your final installation.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once you've called or emailed us with your initial inquiry, we'll start trying to figure out what you're trying to achieve with your lighting installation. We're huge fans of coming to the property and working with you to get a good idea for how you use the space after dark, what focal points you may want to highlight around the property, and/or what we can do to add new life to a previously unused area. During this visit we'll also begin taking measurements, pictures, and any other useful information we may find that helps in designing your lighting display. Often in this same visit, we'll start to come up with enough ideas that we can start to install temporary demonstration fixtures, so that once the sun goes down, you can actually see what your display might look like, which also allows us to play with any given fixture to test different effects that can be achieved, sometimes with just small movements of a fixture. (Sometimes we may need to digest all of the info, in which case we can do the demo during a second visit.) With all of the information gathered, we'll come up with a site design and an estimate for your project. This process can take anywhere from three days to two weeks depending on the scope of your project. Once you've approved that estimate, we'll get your deposit in, order the parts and pieces, and set up an installation date. Because there is some digging involved to bury cables, we'll get utilities marked so that it's safe to dig, and then we'll begin your installation process, which naturally varies depending on the scope of the project. Upon completion, we'll set-up and walk you through any control set-up necessary. Then you're free to enjoy your new and improved outdoor living space!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We've been all over the map as far as lighting and electrical experience are concerned. Sean and Justin both have spent roughly ten years working in the live event industry, which not only lends itself to tons of experience with lighting stages using complex control software for dizzyingly complex lighting fixtures. But also using techniques to transform rooms and outdoor spaces for weddings, gala events, fundraisers, you name it, we've made spaces incredible with lighting. Not only does the event world give us lighting experience, but quite a bit of experience with electricity. Working not only with lighting, but also sound, we've been handling oftentimes large amounts of power to run it all. Whether grounding a 75,000 watt generator and running it via CAM tails to a distro, or splitting a 50kw into two SO cables run to spider boxes, we've been doing the math and permitting on power requirements that are almost always higher than what we're dealing with in the residential 12 volt lighting world. Before moving to Denver, co-founder Justin Riggs was a licensed electrician in the state of South Dakota. He also spent several years doing high end home automation for one of Denver's largest HA companies. As well as being a lead sound and lighting engineer, Sean has been running a Holiday Lighting installation company for about eight years, this is actually a large part of where Lūme gets it's start. Sean has attended an "Outdoor Lighting Design" course (4 CEU) and attended a "Landscape Lighting Bootcamp" (4 CEU) for 8 Continued Education Units as well as a wealth of information on landscape lighting design and installation. Justin has also attended the "Landscape Lighting Bootcamp" (4 CEU)
