FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons are generally $60 per hour and can be scheduled in 30 minute ($30), 45 minute ($45) or 60 minute ($60) sessions. There will be a small additional travel charge for lessons in your home, usually $5-$10 depending on distance. Payment for lessons is due at the time of each lesson, or by the month in advance, by cash or check.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Early lessons will be spent assessing the student's prior knowledge, defining goals and getting to know each other. I will select appropriate materials and lesson plans based on our mutual understanding of learning styles and expectations, and your ultimate goals.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the University of Denver. While at the university I won numerous honors, including the Honors Concerto Competition, which provided me the opportunity to perform as soloist with the Lamont Symphony. Subsequently I was invited to perform with the Denver Symphony and other local groups, and have been a working professional pianist in the Rocky Mountain region ever since. Although my degree studies emphasized performance skills, I was also thoroughly trained in pedagogy and required to design my own teaching method structure and materials. I worked as a rehearsal pianist/coach-accompanist and musical assistant for Opera Colorado for more than 25 years, where I honed my skills in collaborative piano, conducting and rehearsal techniques. Along with my busy performance schedule, I have continued to teach private students for nearly 40 years.
