Matty took out about 300 Sqft or wood flooring and replaced it with 18" Sq tile that we had selected, this was in the kitchen and 2 hallways. Matty was very knowledgeable about not just this work but made many comments about different construction techniques throughout our house. He was on time, committed to quality and very detail oriented in his work. It is truly rare these days to find a contractor of Matty's quality and I would highly recommend him for any home improvement job you have, and on top of all that he was extremely ethical in the way he approached all aspects of the job and billing.

I had a great experience working with Mike. I hired him to paint several rooms in my house, and his attention to detail in the bid process spoke clearly of his experience and commitment to doing the job well. He did an excellent job with the painting itself and left absolutely no mess for me to clean up. He was also easy to work with in terms of scheduling and was very flexible in working with my needs and availability. I would not hesitate to recommend Mike or to hire him again – in fact, I am having him give me an estimate for exterior painting as well. Highly recommended.

I hired Felix to repair a section of water damaged baseboard in my master bath and remove and replace tile grout. He took the time to find a matching baseboard, installed it along with the new grout, all the time working in a timely and efficient manner. I plan to call upon him again.

Chuck is very professional, he knows what he's doing. We hired him to build corner closet in one of the rooms, and to remove an interior wall and patch it in another room. He offered to do some remove and patch an extra door in the same room, and it turned out great. Overall, he did a beautiful job.

I had a very positive experience with Patriot Painting when they painted the walls and ceiling in my entry, kitchen, dining room, and stairwell a few months ago. I got a very clear quote and they stuck to it. The 2-man crew was professional, friendly, and did a good job. When it snowed one morning they called and told me they would be a little late. I thought the price was fair. I would recommend Patriot Painting.

Shea painted the exterior of three properties for me on my ranch in Nebraska this summer and did an outstanding job. He worked through heat most people wouldn't, finished by the deadline and did quality work. Did a good job cleaning up his mess and even some of mine. I will hire him next summer for the interior.

Tony is awesome! We hired him to do our main floor, 5 rooms, both paint and wallpaper. After months of indecision my wife and I had Tony over and he quickly helped us pick the 3 wallpapers that would work best plus the paint that would go with each. His advice was free and his work was priced right. He got it done quickly and left behind only his great work. He's also a really nice guy... highly recommended.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the best way to remove wallpaper?

There are several proven methods for wallpaper removal; each has its pros and cons, but some are definitely easier. Peeling is usually the least painful, followed by soaking and stripping. Dry-stripping is the next most time-consuming, and steaming the most work. The average wallpaper removal job costs between $360 and $560. The method of removal can affect the cost, as steaming takes longer than peeling and will therefore typically cost more. Peeling wallpaper off is usually the quickest method. To see if your wallpaper can be peeled off, try gently edging up a corner and carefully peeling the paper off the wall in strips. If you can’t peel, then you’ll have to score and strip it, either by dry-stripping or by soaking and then stripping. Plaster walls can withstand moisture and can stand up to soaking and stripping, but drywall should not be soaked. For very stubborn wallpaper, steaming may be necessary, which is time-consuming but effective. If you prefer not to attempt these methods yourself, wallpaper removal pros have the proper tools and experience to quickly take down wallpaper and also repair any damage to your walls.

How much does it cost to remove wallpaper in a room?

The national wallpaper removal cost averages $360-$560, which will typically include multiple rooms. Pros often charge by the square foot to remove egregious wallpaper that is long past its prime. Wallpaper removal cost may range anywhere from 60 cents to $1.50 or more per square foot. A pro may estimate removal costs ranging between $160 and $300 for a medium-sized room. Costs can vary due to ceiling height, and some pros add a skim coat to make repainting or re-papering smoother. Here are some examples of average costs to remove wallpaper:

      • Foyer: 36-120 square feet, $21.60-$180.
      • Powder room: 16-36 square feet, $9.60-$54.
      • Living or dining room: 120-252 square feet, $72-$378.
      • Family room: 192-384 square feet, $115.20-$576.
      • Bedroom: 100-224 square feet, $60-$336.
      • Guest bath: 45-84 square feet, $27-$126.
      • Master bedroom: 168-384 square feet, $100.80-$576.
      • Master bath: 54-160 square feet, $32.40-$240.

Once the old wallpaper is gone, the average cost to install new wallpaper is $240-$350.
