- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was in the high stress corporate world for over 25 years. This world suited its purpose, I was able to raise my 2 daughters as a single parent, giving them the comfortable lifestyle that I wanted for them. Then poof! My life changed! My daughters both went out on their own, off to college, and off to build their own lives. That's when I realized it....I hated what I did for a living! So I quit...just like that! I spent most of the next year trying to find that one thing that would bring me happiness in my work life, until I realized that I had actually been doing that very thing my entire life...caring for animals. I can't recall one single time in my life where I had less than 3 furry critters running around, turning my house into a wonderful home. I've dabbled in several animal related careers since that realization, but didn't feel that I found my niche until I began helping my neighbors with their 4 legged friends. It all just snowballed into what it is today from that point, and I have to say, I've never been happier than I am today. I found my purpose, I found my obsession, and I get to play in that world every day. It's an awesome way to live!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
One piece of advice.....the best choice for a care provider is not always the one with all of the fancy certifications and professional accomplishments on their record. You should choose the one that will care for your pet just as you would, with the utmost love and affection. After all, our time with your pet each day is short, they should truly enjoy every minute of it.
