Steve at Mountain Top Construction saved the day. I've never filed an insurance claim and was apprehensive about doing so. Steve walked me through the process step by step as well as ensuring me how smoothly the renovations would be. It took a couple of weeks start to finish, but now my home has a new roof, new paint, gutters and a new window. I did not spend one penny out of pocket and every time I pull in my driveway, there is no question my home has gone up in value. I have referred him to several of my friends who had similar results much less the referral fee he gave me for each one! Thank you Thumbtack for putting me in contact with Steve.

Kathryn's crew poured a 10'x33' driveway that included moving river rock to another landscaped area on the property. The day the prep work was to be done wasn't forecasted properly and the "pour" had to be delayed. They did the prep work and then the rain came. She quickly called in another crew to install heat blankets to keep the excavated area free of excess water and from rusting the new rebar. We had to wait 1 week for the pour, which included a few snow days. I am thankful Kathryn acted fast and was able to install these blankets before the rain, and was able to keep them on the site. I'm sure had I selected a contractor that was "cheaper" I would have had an excavated area that got wet and rusted the rebar. Kathryn is great and professional and good customer service. When it was all said and done, we paid no more than her original estimate and although the weather issue was not due to her planning (I approved the install date too), she sent us fruit basket for our troubles. Since then I have recommended her to others and her crew is going to do some stamped concrete for me in my backyard in June.

I highly recommend A3 Custom Concrete. Bobby is very professional and incredibly responsive. We had our driveway, sidewalk, and entry done and Bobby and his crew only took two days to complete. They were mindful of our sprinklers and plants. Choose A3 for your next project.

4 U 2 did a very good job for our driveway and sidewalk demo and new flatwork. The work began and finished when promised. Only sub-par clean-up keeps this from being a 5 star experience.

Bill and his crew was amazing. Bill came by our house around 1:00pm to give us an estimate on our driveway and front porch. He gave us our quote and than said, "I can get it done today, if you want" He was back within 2 hours and got the job done. Bill and his team were incredible friendly and did a fantastic job. Bill went above and beyond making sure to we have as little as possible future damage. He brought up all of our river rocks that had slid down and leveled it with our front porch. He also ended up drilling a few more sections of our drive way than he had originally anticipated, and still kept true to his original quote. Working with levelbest was so easy and hassle-free. I would encourage anyone needing concrete lifting to contact Bill first. You wont be disappointed. OH! He also warranties his work for 4 years!

Pro Form Concrete was outstanding. They worked with me in accommodating me to install a hydronic piping for a future snow melt system. This required them to schedule around the time I needed to install the piping in their pour. The finished product was outstanding. Several of my friends in construction have commented on how nice the garage slab and driveway turned out. You cannot go wrong with Pro Form.

Scott was very helpful and professional. He took pictures of my and his areas of concern with my driveway and front porch. He thoroughly explained what he was recommending and why. Scott explained what he was planning to do to correct any problems. Scott gave me a date to start the work and was here on time and worked to fix my problem. I found Scott to be a hard worker, honest and very helpful. Thank you Scott! I would recommend Scott and Accu-raise to my friends and neighbors.

The entire job took less than 2 weeks and the price was very reasonable for the quality of work. The owner was very professional.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.
