Hired on Thumbtack

There is no way that the posted reviews for Marcos are genuine by any means. We had hired him to install a new 145' of 6' wooden fence running in a straight line with a double gate. We had agreed on a price that was fair to both parties equally. Marcos said that he had a full-time job so we agreed that he could work in the evening from four to as long as he wanted. He had assured us that the job would take him a maximum of two to three days. Marcos did come on time on the day he said he would. That was about the only positive thing he accomplished. First of all, he came ill-equipped as he lacked any proper digging tools. Secondly, Fifteen minutes into the job and I noticed that he kept going into his car to sit and take brakes about every fifteen minutes. Next, he stopped work one hour and forty-five minutes in to the job and was done for the day having dug only three post-holes, not setting the posts using cement, only digging the holes. Finally, he demanded one quarter of the agreed upon payment. It is true that we had previously agreed to pay one-quarter, however, he had promised to dig eighteen post-holes in return for the first day. There is no way we were going to pay one-quarter of the entire amount for three dug holes! It is outrageous that one can even dare to make such an insane demand! We did end up paying him an amount which was short of one quarter just to be fair. Needless to say, he made it quite clear that he was not returning to complete the work. In hindsight, Marcos is a total fraud and he never had any intention to finish the job. Instead, he just wanted to get as much payment with as little work as possible and run. I honestly was hoping that Thumbtack was going to be a million times better than Craigslist but I was foolish to not realize that same Craigslist trash had ventured to Thumbtack before any customers. Thank you, Thumbtack for helping crooks steal my hard-earned money and causing so much grief.
