Shane was great. Prompt to respond (I had to push back the appointment by a week because of a family emergency so we went back and forth quite a bit) and a prompt arrival this morning. Told him we just needed a sink and faucet removed / replaced with a new ones. Well, somehow we ended up with a faucet that wouldn't work. Shane offered to go to Home Depot and got us a new one, same finish, that actually worked. He then needed another part and again, went out to grab it. Ended up being there much longer than expected, charged us for the parts only, everything looks great. So appreciate everything he did. Truly went above and beyond. Have a sink and faucet we need for the downstairs bathroom (that I'll be picking out myself this time so it will be the correct size, Shane, I promise) that we would like to use him for again!

My remodeling project is still a work in progress. Brian is providing quality workmanship, has left the work area immaculate at the end of the day, and has kept me updated and involved every step of the way with our project by providing me pictures and prices of hardware, tiles, vanities etc. which is extremely helpful to me due to my work schedule and just not finding time to shop around! It is a pleasure working with a contractor who understands our budget, and is enthusiastic in accomplishing an updated, modern, and fresh look for this older bathroom. Thanks Brian!

It was a pleasure to work with him. We hired him to remove our existing kitchen floor which had two layers of glued on vinyl floor. He removed the floor without damaging the subfloor. We are doing other renovations to our kitchen as well as the bathroom. We are seriously considering hiring him for other projects.

After owning our home for over 40 years we were finally ready to remodel the original 1956 master bathroom. We interviewed 4 other contractors before meeting with "For-U-Builders" who seemed to share our vision for transforming our obsolete bathroom into a masterpiece of timeless design combined with quality craftsmanship. Each member of their team, from the owner to the sub-contractors approached the job with professionalism and enthusiasm, along with the in-house coordinator who communicated almost daily with ordering & scheduling details, assuring that the project was well orchestrated from start to finish. We couldn't be happier with the results and feel fortunate to have had this firm complete our dream bathroom on time and at a reasonable (middle of the range) cost. We will surely be using them again for our future projects.

Julio is the best! He was super responsible and very willing to work with our crazy schedule, even came by on a Sunday one time to take care of a non-urgent job in our bathroom. He also did some excellent work for my parents. My family and my parents have finally found their go-to Plumber. I’m recommending Julio to all my extended family and friends. Hire him and you’ll be happy not only with the work product, but just by meeting such a great, hard-working guy. Thanks Julio!

I have used Browns HandyMan Services for several years now. He has replaced windows for me, painted many rooms and all the trim inside our home. Did major painting on the outside of our home as well. He did a wonderful job on the remodel of our master bathroom, which was not easy because we had to meld the old with the new. He is currently building an English Greenhouse for me. I find him to be very detailed, works very hard and in a timely matter. The site is always kept clean. I have never been disappointed and he exceeds our expectations. He is very honest and trust worthy. I call him first with my ongoing projects and home improvement needs. Rena' - Canton, CT

From day one Paulino was very responsive to any inquiry I had about the job. He was professional throughout. Due to traffic conditions he was a few minutes behind schedule but he gave me adequate notice of the delay. He was meticulous with the job (interior door installation), completed the job in a timely manner and cleaned up after completion. I highly recommend Paulino Home improvement to anyone who is looking for a door installer!

I first call rooter constructions because I have an on going leak from one of my bathrooms. It has been going on and off for the last 20 years but this time it was really bad. Anthony came in for a diagnostic visit and show me what and where it could be. Unfortunately they had to remove the wall between the 2 bathrooms to get to it. The work was done the next day and they put everything back together cleanly and nicely afterwards. Anthony had taken a series of photos to show me what the problem was. Then I was given 2 options . One was to just fix the problem, the other to redo the whole bathroom. I chose to redo the whole bathroom. The price was fair. The work was done quickly. I chose the fixtures I wanted and they put it in. They even pick up a vanity and shower stall for me that was not available around my area. The crew was very friendly and professional. Communication was easy , they were very responsive. I always get a respond either the same day or no later then the next day, even on weekends. The whole remodeling took 2 and a half weeks and every day after they were done they always clean up and leave the area nice and clean Anthony was great. I would highly recommend Anthony and his crew to anyone YLeung

What a great company to work with, couldn't be happier. After complications with 2 other contractors and during a third, M & B Unlimited restored my faith in contractors! They were on time, respectful of my home/family, diligent and paid extreme attention to details that I wouldn't have even thought of, and made the whole process as easy and painless as it could be during A construction project. A very professional and trustworthy company, they will be receiving any and all of MY future business, as i'd trust NO other company with my home.

I have worked with AAA Plumbing LLC since 2009 as then-Chair of the Board of Trustees of First Ecclesiastical Society of East Haddam, Connecticut/First Church of Christ Congregational in East Haddam. At the time, we had AAA design and install a replacement system for an outdated steam system for the 1794 Meetinghouse. A design criteria is that it needed to be able to be shutdown completely, just like the steam system, as there is no water in the Meetinghouse part of the building. Two Unico System air handlers were added and connected to the newer boiler in the then 7-year old addition that had plenty of capacity to handle it. The solution was perfect and very quiet, although some missed the occasional clanging of the old steam pipes. I have since had service work performed on the Unico System air handler in my 1834 residence. Very pleased with all experiences and are my "go to" HVAC contractor.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

    • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
    • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
    • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
    • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
    • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

    • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
    • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
      • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
    • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
    • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
    • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.
