Chris Hamel is an amazing DJ, Musician and Lighting Technician. Two years ago I founded Affordable Affairs, a network group of wedding and event vendors, and aggressively pursued Chris to join us as our DJ. I have never known anyone more professional in his field. He is just a class act through and through and I speak for all my partners in Affordable Affairs when I say he is as good as it gets! We hire him, and will continue to hire him, as a DJ, Musician and Lighting Technician as often as he can work with us!

We were invited to a wedding reception about a year ago and she was there as a solo artist doing easy listening backround music then when it came time for dancing she lit the room up with a great variety of 50's -current music so we went on line to look her up for an anniversary party we were planning and she was already booked for that night so were we lucky to push it back to the following Saturday when see was avail. This woman really knows how to entertain a crowd and is very easy on the eyes too!! After talking with her she also told us she tours with a 12 pc. horn band all over the country, I talked her into giving me their latest CD its great. If I were interested in vocal lessons I would definitely call her.

In a world full of boring, recycled music that just plain sucks (especially on the local scene) The Red Hots are a breath of fresh air. The spirt of their music is as eclectic and charming as the band members themselves . They just plain rock. Musicians and music fans alike will truly appreciate the hard work and effort this band puts into kicking @ss, even though they make being awesome seem effortless. I can't big up the Red Hots enough. Love you guys, can't wait to see you again soon.

I have listened to, danced to, and worked with the O-Tones for a very long time. They have played at several swing dances I've attended, played at my wedding, and played at several events over the years. Most especially I appreciate Mary's excellent vision for celebrations and events. For example, Mary and I created a fundraiser for the Northampton Community Music School a couple of years ago. It was my 50th birthday celebration with the goal of raising money for scholarships at the Music School. Mary had great ideas about how to organize the event and make it work with music. The Tones played some of my personal favorites and also catered to my guests. It was a fabulous time with dancing, easy listening, and a lot of celebrating! Exquisite vocals---hot harmony, jazzy sax, and sassy tunes make for a dancers dream. Lots of opportunities to "shine" on the dance floor! Dance "sideliners" also have plenty of toe tapping opportunities. The O-Tones have been around for a while---and there is good reason for their continued success and demand throughout the Northeast and beyond. Even though I am not looking forward to turning another decade, I'm really looking forward to have the O-Tones play at the party!

Jonathan and his and band played at my birthday party.Omg, it was beautiful. My guests were wondering where I had heard them play and could not believe I just discovered them online. We had the dinner hour under such ambience, it felt like we were in an expensive lounge! If I need a band, I will definitely be calling Jonathan again!!! *Ps. I had a last minute request for an additional song and they made it happen!!

My husband and I were guests at a wedding for my friend's daughter and we thought Emotion was fabulous! They had energy, the lead female singer's voice was so true to the original artist's and the band was great! The music selection was also spectacular and I know they assisted with it. I'd see them again any day!

I have worked with Elana in a full band environment for 5 years and also as a recording partner on her original material. During this time I have found her to be very creative in her ability to put her own twist on material. She has a wonderful personality that shines through to her audience during her performances. She engages people with a marvelous sense of humor. Finally, she is an absolutely superb vocalist, with a very rich, sultry tone to her voice. I whole heartedly recommend her.

I would highly recommend the New London Big Band to anyone that is looking for a great live Jazz act for any occasion.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
