Edward Bell says, "I just received an annual inspection of my home's basement by a tall, slender technician (Chris M.), who tightened up the metal struts (beams) that were installed several years ago. Chris, turned out to be very knowledgeable for a tech who has only been with OBA for a little less than 2 years. He answered every question I had and offered advice for the future and assured me that another property I own, should I require service, he or his colleagues would be more than happy to offer assistance with that basement. This young man was exceptional and was the epitome of great customer service and I should know. As a co-author for The Customer Service Specialist Study Guide, used by the Electronic Technician's Association (ETA), in order to earn the coveted CSS designation, a candidate must complete our study guide. I know good customer service and Chris M., is an example of what people who deal with the public should expect. I don't know what his career mindset is, but if I were the management at Ground Works (Ohio Basement Authority), I would definitely put this young man in for a raise and have him be the face of service for others in his field. Thank you, Ohio Basement Authority for all the work you have accomplished in my home and I cannot think of any other company I would use for my basement or the basement of my late wife's home (that I now own)! As I have, over the years, I will continue to recommend Ohio Basement Authority (Ground Works), to anyone who has a need for basement or foundation repairs, inspection and in general, those issues an owner would have concerns with. I might add, once you hire OBA, you will find their pricing better than competitive."See more

“If your driveway shows cracks, uneven surfaces, or pooling water, it may be time to have it professionally repaired. Addressing these issues earlier may help prevent more extensive and costly repairs later on.“

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

You can find a reliable professional to repair your driveway by following these steps:

  • Verify their license and insurance: A pro should have general liability insurance to cover potential property damage. Some areas may also require a specific contractor or paving license. Keep in mind that requirements vary by region.

  • Get several estimates: When you get estimates from several driveway contractors, make sure each one is itemized. A proper estimate should break down the costs for labor, materials, and prep work, and it should clearly state the scope of the repair.

  • Read their reviews: Look for comments that mention the pro’s punctuality, communication, and the long-term quality of their work. Red flags can include reviews mentioning that the repair didn't last, unexpected costs, or a messy job site.

  • Look at their portfolios: Check out before-and-after photos of past projects, especially ones that look similar to your driveway's issue. Pay attention to the finished surface — it should look even and well-blended with the existing driveway.

  • Find out if they have warranties: Ask if they offer a warranty or guarantee on their workmanship. This could protect you if the patch sinks or cracks within a specific timeframe after the job is done.

  • Ask important questions: Before hiring, ask questions like, "What's your process for preparing the damaged area?", "What is the timeline for the project?", and, "How long do I need to wait before I can park on the repaired surface?"

Common signs that indicate it’s time to hire driveway repair companies include:

  • Cracks. Whether they're small web-like cracks or long, deep ones, they allow water to seep underneath and cause bigger problems.

  • Potholes or crumbling edges. These are clear signs of failure that can damage your vehicle’s tires and alignment over time.

  • Poor drainage. If you notice standing water or puddles long after it rains, your driveway isn’t shedding water correctly, which can lead to erosion.

  • Uneven surfaces. Sinking or heaving sections are trip hazards and often point to issues with the base layer. Professional driveway companies can assess the cause and recommend a fix.

  • Faded, worn-out appearance. For asphalt, a gray, faded color means the protective sealcoat has worn off, leaving the surface vulnerable to damage.

Driveway repair companies will charge differently depending on the job. The cost of your repair depends on factors that include:

  • The extent of the damage: The type and severity of the damage play a big role. It’s cheaper to fill a few small cracks than it is to fix deep potholes, large sunken areas, or drainage issues.

  • Your driveway’s material: Repairing concrete, asphalt, pavers, or gravel involves different techniques and material costs. What your driveway is made of can affect the final price.

  • The size of the repair: A larger repair area will require more materials and labor, which increases the overall cost of the project.

  • Labor and project complexity: If the damaged area is hard to access or requires specialized equipment, you can expect labor costs to be higher.

  • Additional services: Your total cost may also include services like resealing the entire driveway after the repair, extensive cleaning, or adding a new topcoat.

Concrete contractors can build foundations, structures, driveways, concrete storm drains, raise or level concrete patios and much more. They can handle every step of the process, starting with framing the mold that the concrete is poured into. They then cut, assemble and tie together the rebar, giving the concrete its tensile strength. Finally, they pour the concrete in, mixing and conditioning it to ensure it cures properly. They will also take steps to ensure that no air pockets are trapped within it.

If you have a project that requires the help of a concrete contractor, reach out to one today to get a price estimate.

It usually takes one to three days for a professional to repair a driveway, but each job is different. Factors that affect the timeline include:

  • The extent of the damage: Minor cracks can be filled quickly, while extensive damage may require more time.

  • The type of repair needed: Simple patching is faster than a full resurfacing or replacing a section of the driveway.

  • Your driveway’s material: Concrete repairs often take longer than asphalt due to the necessary curing time.

  • Weather conditions: Rain, humidity, and cold temperatures can all delay work and extend drying or curing times.

  • The contractor’s schedule: The availability of the driveway contractors you choose will play a big role in the project’s start date and duration.

Remember: The timeline for your project will vary depending on many factors. Always ask your pro to provide an estimate.

During the on-site visit, you can expect your pro to start with a thorough inspection of your driveway to identify all the cracks, potholes, or other signs of damage. They’ll then discuss their findings with you and explain the most suitable repair options for your situation. This is a good time to ask questions, as different contractors may have slightly different approaches.

Finally, they should provide a detailed quote outlining the scope of work, materials, and total cost before any work begins.
