I began taking spin classes soon after LivFit Fitness opened. After several times struggling to finish a class I began to realize the most difficult parts for me were the jumps and standing. I had multiple injuries to my knees in high school (25 years ago). The latest injury in 2007 resulted in a complex knee surgery. After each of the four injuries I completed months of physical therapy. After leaving a spin class I began speaking with a friend who recommended I see Tim for MAT. She explained how much he has helped her so I decided to give it a try. I felt I had tried the traditional ortho route and was willing to see what this was about. Tim explained what MAT is and how this process reactivates your muscles so they can better tolerate the stress of daily activities and exercise. The trauma and atrophy my muscles had suffered as a result of the injuries made them incapable of tolerating much stress. This is why I hadn't been able to stand on the bike long during a class or take a flight of stairs without pain in my knee. Physical therapy only targets your large muscles. MAT gets the smaller, supportive muscles working. Once you have an injury the rest of your body tries to compensate for the muscles that aren't working. The longer this goes on the worse off your body gets. As I began MAT I felt stronger little by little. I am happy to say today I am able to stand and do all the jumps in a long class. The muscles in my knees, hips, ankles and spine are working together to support my frame. It has completely realigned by body. The latest "ah-ha" moment occurred when I was walking down a very steep hill just the other day. I felt muscles around my knees working that I never knew I had. The strength I felt was empowering. As you feel better and stronger daily activities become easier. You are able to work out more effectively. MAT has been a life saver for me. I felt defeated when I first started spinning. But over time I felt my entire body has benefited from MAT and quite honestly, wish I had learned about it much sooner.
About 35 years ago I suffered a cervical spinal cord injury. Fortunately my paralysis was temporary although I still had uneven strength throughout my body. After several years of both physical and occupational therapy I began weight training at a local fitness center. I continued doing this for several years until pregnancy and childbirth caused me to stop for a long period of time. My child grew older and a new gym opened near my home. I was very excited about it because I definitely felt stronger, healthier and happier when I was exercising regularly. It was there that I first met and worked with Glenn VanLeuven. After several sessions with Glenn I knew that I wanted to continue to work with him. Working with him I was able to achieve levels of fitness that I never would have reached on my own. That was over 15 years ago. To this day I still work with Glenn 3 times a week even through injuries and broken bones. Now as I age, my mobility is not what it used to be but I firmly believe that Glenn's technique, knowledge and encouragement have kept me on my feet and active for these last 15 years and hopefully for many more.

Anna was the perfect physical therapist for me, immediately easing my nerves with her kind, caring personality. She heard my concerns and instilled total confidence that I would indeed dance again. She was very knowledgeable and created a progressive plan for recovery. Once the injury itself healed, we worked on series of intensifying exercises to regain my strength and range of motion. Anna was an incredible cheerleader pushing me towards my goals while also never letting me slide. She could tell if I hadn’t fulfilled the exercise regimen she prescribed. I officially completed our sessions feeling stronger than ever. I grew so fond of Anna that the only downside of my full recovery was missing our conversations and her bright personality. I cannot recommend Anna more! She’s a true gem!
