I had the luxury of being educated by teachers and mentors that emphasized technical skill but to a greater extent, having fun. Whether I am playing classical or rock music I can guarantee I'm having a great time. My clients do not just get a flute performance they get an attention to detail that contributes to the whole experience.
Every job/performance is different, even if it requires the same repertoire. It's an exceptional feeling to add a little something to the atmosphere at a charity or church event, or bring a live touch to a bride's special day. Usually the greatest challenge per event is unexpected and requires on the spot creativity (uncooperative weather, a bug flying in my mouth when I'm about to play, a camera flash blinding me in mid performance!) Some people get upset about these things, I think it makes you a better player and you have to laugh at it.
