- How did you get started doing this type of work?
At 16 years of age, Miller became the youngest person to be named Connecticut's Best Apple Pie and also won the Connecticut State Baking Competition by the Association of Connecticut Fairs. After winning the title of Connecticut's Best Apple Pie, Miller received a full-scholarship to train under a 2-time chef of the year at an American Culinary Federation certified internship program. The program functioned at a former 13-story hotel and banquet center overlooking the city skyline of Indianapolis. During the internship, Miller was required to assume the role of Sous Chef (floor manager) as apart of the culinary scholarship. After the culinary internship program, Jonathan received dual Associates degrees from Naugatuck Valley Community College award winning program in Foodservice Management & Hotel Management. He also received dual certifications in Culinary Arts & Dietary Supervision. Jonathan was awarded the Faculty Award & a scholarship for Excellence in the Hospitality Industry and also received a certification by the American Hotel & Lodging Association. During Miller's degree & internship program, he continued working in the foodservice industry as a private chef and freelance caterer for various functions and foreign delegations - including an international conference in Nashville, TN for more than 1,200 people. Miller obtained his Food Manager's License and Alcohol ServSafe training by the National Restaurant Association.
