I needed repair to fix my door frame. My door frame was quite damaged. As soon as I filled out the Thumbtack repair request form, Walter contacted me. It was a Sunday, that didn't deter Walter to come out not only to assess the damage, he repaired it that same day. he also gave us a great price which was tremendously lower than the other prices I was quoted. Walter is very kind and professional! I'm quite pleased with his excellent work! (See the before and after pics.) I would recommend Walter and his company to anyone!

Joshua recently provided his services for some plumbing repair and leak issues in both bathrooms of my home. He responded to my request promptly and was very courteous and accommodating throughout the process. He completed the work to my full satisfaction in short order and even corrected something that I didn't notice at no additional charge. The final bill matched his estimate, so there were no surprises. I will not hesitate to use Joshua in the future and highly recommend his services for your project.

Bob quoted me a fair price for some window repair work on Thumbtack and came out to take a closer look. He stuck to his price and never tried to sell me on getting new windows. He worked within my budget, was always one time, took pride in his work as well as keeping my house clean in the process. I would definitely hire him again for other work.

Sonny Vujac of Dino and sons could not have been lovelier to work with Not only did he have the most affordable pricing but the quality of the job we got and the attention to detail was terrific Sonny worked with us every step of the way and made the experience as seamless as possible. We hired him to do just a paint job but we're so pleased we expanded the scope of the project to include floor refinishing tile flooring and numerous other things A pleasure start to finish We would not hesitate to recommend Dino and sons again

Don was very knowledgeable on what needed to be done on the 2 windows in my room & the living room. The job he did was perfect I am so pleased with the end result you can't tell where all the damage was done after he finished the work. The price he charge was way below what I thought I would have to pay for the repairs! He always cleaned up after he finished doing something. I would highly recommend him on his work he has done. Very professional work ethics!!!

Rome and his guys were great. We originally planned on only doing a couple things, and after seeing the quality of the work on stair repair and popcorn removal, we also had hardwood flooring installed, drywall replaced and tiling done. The work Johnny, Reuben, Jesus and the other guys did was beautiful and the prices Rome gave us were very reasonable. I would recommend him and his guys to anyone looking to get professional quality work done to their home.

Couldn't have been a better person to deal with. Brian came right out, gave me an estimate and was back the next morning with parts to repair the shower faucet. Better than fair on his prices with no markup on parts. Patient, pleasant, and respectful. We plan on hiring him again for other repairs/projects.

Frank was early and got right to work on my siding job. He had matched the color perfectly! (no easy task) The job was completed on time, perfectly done and at a reasonable price. He is a skilled craftsman and I was very pleased with his work. I will recommend him to family and friends if they have need of work on their homes. Give him a try if you need anything done in home improvement or repair. My first experience with Spirit Contracting and thumbtack and it was a very satisfactory one. Thank you Frank for a fine job. I highly recommend Francois to anyone reading this. I've been a customer of his for several years now, and In that time, he's assisted me with: new flooring, ceiling renovations, furniture fabrication and installation, plumbing, electrical work, painting, wall and ceiling repair, and appliance repair / replacement. I hired Mr. Newman based on recommendations from friends, but I continued to use him because I have yet to meet a handyman / contractor who is as consistently responsive, honest, and fairly priced as he is. Work was completed as quoted and on budget, something that has been very hard to find in my experience. If you want quality work, at a good price, without playing phone tag for days; look no further!

PM Drywall in two words: Fantastic work! We are trying to sell our house and move south. We had a leaking roof with 4 areas with very large drywall repair needs.Pedro repaired these areas, and many other dings, furniture dents, cat scratches, etc. that we pointed out. He also repaired raised drywall seams and other problems we did not notice. The end results were smooth, perfect ceilings and walls! Professional work, pleasant gentleman, great cleanup, at a fair price. I would not hesitate, nor would I call for other estimates, to recommend PM Drywall. They also do interior and exterior painting, probably with the same quality.

Matt and his team were hired to clean the gutters at my mother's home. As a retired widow and wonderful woman of a certain age, my mother was anxious about hiring a contractor on her own because my father had managed home repair/improvement. Since he died, many home maintenance jobs have not been done - especially the gutters. Matt came to her home and was very kind and thorough when providing an estimate. I appreciated that he took the time to look at the gutters because it gave my mother the comfort that he could be trusted because he "didn't pull a figure out of the air" (mom's quote). On the day of the job, Matt arrived with his team of three and introduced them to my mother. The men were timely, very friendly and thorough. The gutters were bad - 4" of cement-like build up with little saplings growing out of it! The guys got rid of it in an hour. The experience was excellent. I recommend Matt and, if my mom used a computer, she would post a recommendation too!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.
