Nelson sent an installer to install 6x24 wood look porcelain tile in my master bedroom and enclosed porch along with new baseboard and crown molding. The installer was very punctual and professional and did a fantastic job of laying the tile on a very uneven concrete floor. He did a beautiful job and in the end both floors are incredibly flat with no "toe kickers". I will definitely be contacting Nelson for other jobs I need done around the house. Thank you Nelson and Estenio! Oh yeah, and the best part is, the pricing was very reasonable!

I saw Chris's work at a neighbor's house and called to schedule repairs at my house. Chris and his partner pressure cleaned my driveway, fixed my lawn sprinklers, installed a new kitchen faucet and replaced electrical sockets for me. These gentlemen are courteous and clean cut. They leave your home neat and tidy when the work is finished. Their price is very reasonable. The next time anything at my house needs repair, I'm calling Chris! Call Chris at Gentle Hands. You'll be glad you did!

John came the same day I called and we discussed what I wanted done. He had some very good suggestions and with very little dickering we agreed to a price for him to construct a 24 by 12 concrete patio and remove the old paver bricks and old sidewalk. He came the very next day and began the demo work and some prep work. (This was on a Saturday) On Monday his crew was here on time, laid out the forms and cleared out the necessary grass and soil. The concrete arrived about 11:30 am and by 1 :00 pm the patio was poured and looking great. They did the finishing work, removed the forms and my new patio was done and finished. He also repaired a broken driveway spot at the same time. Great Job! Great People to deal with! Great people doing the work. If I ever need concrete work done again, John Campbell gets the call. I highly recommend John Campbell. He does what he says he will do and then some. He is there when he says he will be there. He is a man of his word. KUDOS to John and his workers!

They were quick and timely on their work. I had some initial problems with some minor damages but they came back and fixed all items I requested they fix. New driveway looks great. Glad I decided to add new/replacement new grass and dirt after the fact to finish up the front.

Great job. Great value. We were given a 5 day requirement by VA appraiser to level concrete driveway and sidewalks that the appraiser said was a trip hazard in order to sell our house to a VA buyer. Slab Fix was available in the allotted time and at a price 1/3 rd or replacing the drive way.

Will Ruiz and his company My House Aluminum gave us an excellent experience in replacing our driveway. They tore out the old driveway and removed the concrete. Then replaced it with brand new concrete. The entire project was done exactly according to the timeline that was laid out. And, it came in at exactly the price as quoted.

Our project was driveway, walkway & entry to our front door. Concrete driveway was mess with cracks. A.A.A. pavers had very competitive fair pricing. Concrete removal, ground prep & leveling, paver installation, paver sealing was all completed in 4.5 days start to finish. Amazing! Coming back today for excess block pick up and minor clean up. Beautiful finished product. A.A.A. paver & construction LLC does quality work and pays close attention to detail. Mr. DaSilva was very good to work with and addressed all our questions and concerns as the project moved forward. Would recommend this company strongly to anyone looking to have paver work done. before & after photo's attached

I used Spirit Resurfacing for removal of a wood deck and a concrete slab poured in its place. I was very happy with the results so when I needed a generator pad, I also used them for this job. Will use them for future projects.

The guys were a pleasure to work with, were very honest and gave us a great quote for all of the concrete work we had done. The only issue I had was I would have liked for them to haul the dirt which was taken to lay the concrete. Instead, it was placed on top of my lawn and this inevitably killed my grass. They went above and beyond by getting seed and fertilizer to try to fix the issue, but the grass is different and will eventually need to be re-sodded. The concrete work however is perfect and I've already received compliments on how much it has improved our driveway and back patio area.

I recently took on the task of installing an inground swimming pool myself as Owner/Builder. Finding reputable businesses can be a very challenging task. Unfortunately I had it very easy when I met James the owner of Creative Concrete Construction. First off, this guy is amazing. Very professional, knowledgeable and good on his every word. His work ethics are beyond outstanding. He is there when he says he'll be there and he doesn't leave until the job is done. Usually people just stroll in to the job site whenever they please, not James, he is there as soon as the sun comes up. Sometimes he's there before you even wake up. Anytime I had a question I received a response immediately. Out of all the contractors I hired for my pool build, James was by far the best and really was able to help me through this big challenge I decided to take on. He's got years of experience and an abundance of knowledge. I actually was put at ease by him because I knew he would do what he said he would do and when he said he would do it. I had no worries or doubts whatsoever. I am very pleased with the work James did on my tile and concrete deck. He was able to design it in such a way that it looks like it's been there this whole time. Don't waste your time with any other company. You're in good hands with him. Give him a call and get your next project started.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

    • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
    • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
    • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
    • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
    • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
    • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

    What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
