FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I start with a conversation over the phone to learn about the student’s history, study habits, performance in past relevant courses, and the goals they want to reach. This gives me an initial idea of what type of support is needed and the approach to take to help them become (or stay) top academic performers. In the initial **********, we will also discuss scheduling and how to prepare for our sessions.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I always performed very well in school, but it never came easily to me. In college, I realized that explaining concepts back to myself helped me understand and remember very complex topics. This intensively developed my communication skills in the sense that I could probably explain anything to anyone! I also worked to develop a note-taking strategy that could allow me to come back to it later and understand everything, even if I remembered nothing. I eventually realized that my notes were so detailed and well-organized that anyone could probably ace the test by studying my notes alone! I had a desire to help others with this skill, and I began doing tutoring work after graduating.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I’ve worked with students from as young as third grade to adults in their 50s, covering topics ranging from simple addition to upper-level undergraduate courses such as calculus or molecular genetics.
