Bruce D. says, "Kurt Bartels is definitely a pro! For years I have had a cat door wedged into the track of my sliding glass door. However, hurricane impact windows and sliding glass doors will be installed at the end of June, and I would like the sliding glass doors to fully close and lock. To that end, I went online three months ago to a pet site and ordered a high tech cat door to be installed in a 10 inch exterior masonry wall. Kurt and I had a few conversations over a two-week period. During that time, having sent Kurt a tutorial on how the cat door might be installed through different building materials, we discussed different options. The tutorial also listed a number of supplies and tools that might be needed for the job. Having chosen a possible site, Kurt was hopeful that under the Masonary might be a hollow cinderblock. No such luck; the wall was solid concrete!! Kurt had brought along two concrete cutters with six additional blades. He eventually broke through and when finished, he had knocked out a 35 pound chunk of concrete! It had taken five long sweaty hours, but the results were readily apparent. Instead of a raggedy Jaggedy hole that dimly looked the appropriate shape, Kurt’s knowledge and precision of the job Insured that that hole had been exactly cut 11 1/2 inches tall by 8 1/2 inches wide! When the cat door was placed in the cut, it fit like a glove. Kurt next anchored the tunnel with concrete screws. He then unrolled the length of supplied carpet, cut it to fit, and installed the olfin carpet down one wall across the floor and up the opposite wall. (This carpet is treated to withstand the growth of mold and pathogens.). Finally, he caulked both sides of the cat door and smoothed it over with a wet sponge for a finished look. I have the highest praise for Kurt Bartel’s install of my high-tech cat door. He has worked as a general contractor with concrete for decades. Kurt agreed to take on this job where other contractors or handyman might have bulked at the prospect. my sincere thanks for the excellent work that was done."See more
