Michelle was amazing to work with. We originally used her for dog walking for our rescue Bernese Mountain dog and she told us she also does training. Our Buddy took to her right away. She has an ability to connect with dogs and truly treats Buddy like her own. She never gave up and always arrived with new ideas. If there is a Cape Coral dog whisper it is Michelle!

Kris took loving care of my dog, Shelby, for nine years – from when she was a puppy until this past July when Kris moved out of state. Kris is kind, gentle, flexible, honest, and extremely dependable. She treated Shelby like her own dog, and her home was Shelby’s second home as she kept her for daycare three times per week (~8hrs/day). She helped me out in a pinch more times than I can count, taking Shelby last minute (even on weekends) when alternate plans fell through, keeping her late when I couldn’t get out of work, and even watching her overnight on occasion. It was obvious how well she treated Shelby given Shelby’s exuberance whenever we bumped into her. I could not have asked for a better person to care for my dog. Shelby and I both miss her terribly.

I hired Wishbone Pet Services online (I live in Massachusetts) for my mother who lives in Florida. My mother had unexpected immediate surgery and needed someone to feed/walk her dog. Wishbone was available to help out the same day I contacted them. They have been flexible with meeting a neighbor of my moms in order to have a meet and greet with SamSam and a walk through of his food/snacks/leashes/etc. Everything went smoothly and has been very helpful.

Desirea has done a wonderful job with our cat Max. He is a scaredy cat and doesn't warm up to strangers very quickly. She has been patient with him and he is warming up to her. We will use her whenever we need a sitter for Max.

Guardian Angels was absolutely the best choice to trust with my pets! Monica spent so much time caring for my animals, and went above and beyond what I had asked for! I will continue to use for all my pet sitting needs.

Kim was such a great dog sitter for us, she took such good care of our dogs for us. We have done boarding kennels before and one of our dogs is blind so being at home is much better for her. Kim watered our plants and took our mail in and we loved our dog report cards and pictures at the end. We can't wait to have her back in August to pet sit for us again.

Tia was great she was accommodating and responsive. She sent pictures and updates of our dog while my family was on a vacation. As much as we missed our dog it made us feel great that he was being so well cared for. Highly recommended.

Angela Gipson truly loves animals and is very knowledable . She was wondeful when she took care of my dog Cappy. HE can be quite a handful but she was patient and soon he was attached to her, When I recently left him for a week, I came back to a happy, healthy dog. She taught me some great tips when I walk him my self. She kept his feeding and walking routine to perfection. Now I can go away without quilt and my doggie gets a vacation too.

Celia's pet sitting service has been wonderful for us! Celia has had Joleen come to our house every weekday for an hour to play with our dogs for the past few years. Joleen has always been very reliable and has been very loving to our two dogs. She plays with them the entire time she is here and they are always happy to see her. We are sorry to be leaving the area and will miss Joleen very much.

Though new to training as a business of her own she has trained dogs for years. She is knowledgeable, patient and calm a great combination for trading a Portugeese Water Dog. I am looking forward to a well trained dog though our relationship.

    About

A balanced dog is a happy dog. To balance your dog, it needs not only care but long for what you educate, socialize and train. It's never too early or too late for you to teach your dog some tricks. The benefits you will gain will be invaluable as training serves as mental stimulation for the dog and often to the owner himself. It will help you meet your dog and strengthen the relationship you have with him. In addition, you'll be surprised at how quickly your dog can learn if you do it properly and positively.

    About

There is nothing more enjoyable to me than spending time with a furry friend! I love animals and will always be excited to meet another dog that I get to take care of!

    About

To be honest, I am not a professional dog walker, but I love animals. I have a pit bull, but she lives with my ex-husband, and I have had many of my daughter's pit bulls in my home. I have several granddogs, and they love me, so maybe you would be willing to give a true animal lover a try.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
