The 3 things I worried about when hiring a dog walker was having someone in my home when I'm away, reliability and that they care about my dog. Kim has given me peace of mind on all points and I highly recommend her.

We hired Pookie Bros to look after our pets while we were on vacation for Christmas. I had the opportunity to work mostly with Scottie, and he was so great. He came by to meet our pets (2 cats, 1 dog) and get to know them before we went on our trip. He came twice a day while we were gone and took care of everything at one flat rate (dog walk, cat litter, feeding, even collecting the mail). He also (patiently) answered my many text messages inquiring about my furbabies while we were away, and even sent me some pictures. When we returned home, the animals were clearly well cared for and the house was in good shape as well. I would 100% recommend Pookie Bros to anyone - they have been at it for many years and you can tell they are really passionate about what they do. It's also a great value compared to other pet sitters in Orlando!!!

I’ve used Kara’s services multiple times now for dog walking and boarding. Her love for animals is obvious. Kara was very reassuring to me when I was nervous to leave her while I went away during the weekend. She sent me updates and photos and kept my four legged baby happy. I would definitely recommend Kara to anyone who needs pet care!

It was our first time using a pet sitter to stay overnight in our home and Madi made us feel extremely comfortable. You could immediately tell that she has a strong love of animals and our dog, Gracie, was drawn to her right away. Madi is extremely professional and we would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a trustworthy pet sitter.

Carrie has been great! She dog walks a couple days a week. She will text me to say she is on her way and will take pictures of my fur baby to send over. My dog looks forward to seeing her, and I feel completely comfortable with Carrie. I was a little scared to give a stranger keys and access to my house, but Carrie has proven to be trustworthy and a valuable addition to the family!

TJ is an amazing trainer and educator. I have a Dutch Shepherd and if you know the breed then you know that they are stubborn, intelligent, and high energy (cousins to a Belgian Malinois). It is a dog that you must motivate and engage to properly train otherwise they will run all over you. My shepherd was rehomed 3 times due to his temperament e.g. he does not like to just sit around. I was lucky enough to be his forever home. I previously used two other trainers/facilities with mixed results. I was finally luck enough to meet TJ. During our initial talks, TJ asked what my expectations where and they were vast e.g. can you off leash train my dog in 2 weeks. TJ then took those expectations and turned them into reality. After our talks we put together a custom plan on how to train my K9. I left our meeting confident that TJ could handle my dog, however I did not know what to expect due to my previous experiences, I did not want to go through this process for a 4th time. TJ trained my K9 for two weeks straight while I was at work, and after work we trained together so that he could educate me on what was taught that day and what I needed to do and work on. After two weeks of training all I can say is WOW, the smile I had on my face was of pure amazement, it was worth every single dollar I spent ZERO regrets. TJ is the REAL deal. He trained my dog in basic obedience and then continued to teach more advanced obedience using a variety of techniques. He got my K9 to 90% off leash obedience and if you know what that takes it is unthinkable without using an E-Collar in such a short period of time on a teenage dog. Only in the final stages of training did we introduce an E-Collar as a pre-cautionary measure, TJ went over exactly how to use the E-Collar and the dos and donts. During the entire propose TJ educated me about every type of collar and training tool and how and when it should be used so that I would never incorrectly use a tool and regress my dogs behavior. Since then I continue to train with TJ on a regular basis and recently I signed up my K9 for his protection program which enforces continued obedience education as well as protection training which is customized on a per K9 basis. If youre looking for a one stop shop trainer no matter if you have a puppy, a teenage dog, or an adult dog regardless of breed this is the guy to talk to. He could make a French Bulldog a protection dog LOL. You really get what you pay for with TJ. Lilly ROCKS! Our dog Baylee looks forward to spending time with her and her "boys". She takes excellent care of Baylee and even though we now live in St Augustine - it's well worth the drive to board our dog. Can't say enough great things about Lille. She is the best!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
