My first impression of Lance was positive, he came out to our home to give us an estimate for our master bathroom and appeared to be very professional. He stayed 10-15 minutes after taking measurements to chat with my husband and I- we liked everything about him. After getting a few estimates we decided to go with Lance, so we sent him a message letting him know that he was hired, his reply “That’s great news. I’ll send over an updated quote this week”. This is when things changed with Lance’s professionalism. When he emailed us the updated quote, he never followed up with a text message letting us know that he sent it (this is not a big deal at all to us, but it does show where his behavior starts to change, as he followed up with a text when he sent the 1st quote). I asked him if we could chat on the phone with some questions as to what we might expect, he said sure. When we got on the phone with Lance, he informed us that we’d start demo most likely Wednesday of next week. And that his payment would be 50% up front (when Lance came to our home the 1st time he said he’d work with us about the 50% upfront) when we asked him about working with us he said he didn’t “feel comfortable changing the way he always does it” We said, “Okay”. The conversation ended with him saying that he’d be in touch next week for a few thousand to apply for permits and to sign the contract. That weekend my husband and I took hours to clear out our entire bathroom to prepare for the demo. On Tuesday we reached out to Lance via text asking him what was going on- no response. Wednesday I called him and this is where he tells me that he will not be doing our project because we don’t feel comfortable giving him 50% upfront. I was in shock. Communication is key, this showed us how quickly handing someone $15,000 dollars could of turned into a nightmare with no communication, maybe you show up maybe you don’t and who knows what the final product would of looked like with this type of behavior. Lance completely unprofessional and untrustworthy. One should find it odd that Lance says he has been in business for years, but all of his 5 star reviews are within the last month. Buyer beware!

Lance did a great job. He was polite, honest and hard working. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were outstanding. He even provided some additional advice on getting the terrible water stains out. Our 15 year old fence looks brand new. I’m already considering bringing lance back for some other projects around the house. I highly recommend him.

Details: Wood • 6 feet or less • 100 - 200 feet • Full repainting in same color • Wood stain • Yes, I will supply the paint to the professional • Residential

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Typically we will qualify customers via a text or phone call to insure we fit their budget. From here we schedule an in person walk through where we sit down and discuss the project on site and in person. After this is completed we will draft up a quote. If agreeable to the customer we sign a contract, accept a deposit, and begin work.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

My father was a carpenter in Key West where we worked on older “conch” houses my entire childhood into my college years. In college I got a job with BC Building and Remodeling which is a high-end residential contractor out of Lighthouse Point, FL. I worked with Matt from BC building for years renovation NFL players, celebrities, and other ultra high end homes until I finished the Florida licensing process to obtain my State Certified Residential contractors license.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

For a residential contractor I would first advise a client to ask for licensing and insurance. A large number of “contractors” in South Florida claim to be licensed when they are not. Do your research and google the contractors license number. Make sure this info matches the individual or company you are considering. All of this info is public record. Next ask for pictures of past work. If said individual cannot produce photos off their phone of actual projects they have completed big red flag. Lastly ask for references; its easy to be nice when you are quoting a job but a good contractors stands behind the work long after the check clears. Past customers will give you the honest truth on a contractor.
