Jaime is awesome. He gave us advice on the best place to mount the TV to avoid damage by the bedroom door. Our original posting didn't involve hiding the cords but he offered to do it and didn't charge us extra. He's very skilled, organized and knowledgeable. The total installation involved installing the mount, the TV itself, the direct TV box, and the remotes and programs to make the TV function. There's nothing we need to do or program on our part. I'm going to call him again to install another a TV in a second bedroom. Thanks Jaime!

We needed a shattered window fixed ASAP. We were contacted by Advance Glass first and their estimate seemed reasonable so we gave them a try. They were originally to come in the early evening but they called and said they could be there in 20 minutes. They arrived on time, fixed the window and also fixed the handle on our slider. They were friendly, courteous and did a quality job. We hopefully won't need their services again, but if we do, we will call them!

We were impressed right from the start. We sent a request for a quote on a Sunday, he contacted us, almost immediately. Showed up. Quoted us, without pressure, a very fair price. Due to his responsiveness & no pressure sales presentation, we went ahead and gave him the job. This is very unusual for us, but we couldn't be happier. We've since had solar pool panels installed. The technician that we've used for over 15 years, even commented on what a great job was done on our roof. Finally, Paul has made sure we were completely satisfied throughout the process. We have asked now him to quote us insulation for our attic & impact windows for our home.

Stephen was excellent to work with! We hired him to cover/remove a door that we no longer needed and he did such a great job on this project which was something a lot of other contractors wouldn’t even attempt. He took his time and did it perfect. We ended up hiring him to install our hurricane impact door, install window sills, fix a leak in a third door that someone else had installed , and finish the frame work that someone else had never completed. He is now our go to person for all house projects in the future :)

We hired iPaint USA to paint the exterior of our house. We had three other companies in consideration but Marcelo's professionalism and pricing helped us to pick his company. Marcelo was present everyday with one helper and they finished the job in two days. They were very punctual and very tidy. They did a clean job and all the materials were brought in by Marcelo himself. We would definitely recommend iPaint USA to our friends and family. Best wishes to you, Marcelo! You were a delight to work with.

My request was simple: fully paint three rooms and several doors plus touch up walls where needed. In preparation for my house to be put on the market, I needed it to show well without investing too much money. Fabian gave great advice, pointing out areas that should be painted and even suggesting a lovely neutral color. He was very accommodating (next day service!) and willing to negotiate a very fair price. His crew was timely, professional, and they clearly took pride in the work they were doing. They expertly painted three bedrooms, multiple doors and touched up walls throughout my house. They also did some repairs on a ceiling and on outside planter boxes. It was a pleasure to have T & F Painting work in my house and they did an excellent job!

Rooms to go told me four separate times that's a sinkhole in my coach could not be fixed. JC Designs fixed it. I had to window treatment companies tell me that my vertical blinds could not be fixed. JC designs fixed them. I had water leaking into my apartment from a water heater upstairs broke. It rotted The bottom of an expensive commode in my living room. I didn't think that it could be repaired. J C Designs repaired it and it looks beautiful. If you need something done right, and at a reasonable price. Call them. You will be happy you did.

They replaced all windows and sliding glass doors in my home with hurricane proof products. They also installed new front doors. I can't say enough about the quality of the products and workmanship. Klaus and Kris are the best! The inspector commented that they should be getting a lot of work because of the excellence of their installation. They were prompt, kept me informed every step of the way and worked diligently. Plus, they are very nice guys. I can't recommend them any stronger. This was the best experience I've ever had with construction contractors.

Mr.Novoa was a pleasure to work with. He pressure washed our patio and house, replaced old shutters with new ones, installed our shelving in garage, hung bead board on the ceiling in our music room, fixed a leaky faucet in kitchen and replaced toilet upstairs with a new one. He got all of my odd projects done quickly and I am thrilled with the results. I will certainly use Novoa's home improvement again and I highly recommend them!!!

Joe is my go-to-guy to repair / install everything around the house sans electric work (well, he did mount a tankless water heater with existing breaker & electrical wires). I've worked with him on & off for about three years now and have zero complaints. He has always finished every project he has started and has worked weekends / stayed late to meet my deadlines. Scope of work done - Fencing / landscaping Exterior & interior painting Siliconizing roofs & fixing roof leaks Plumbing including installing garbage disposal, touch sensitive faucets, utility sink, soldering copper pipes Installing blinds & window screens Replacing attic and porch screens Replacing & painting kitchen cabinet doors To top it all, his price has always been the most competitive.

Unlimited Doors & Windows SAVED me. Being first time home buyer , It was also my first time using the thumbtack app that was recommended by a neighbor. The home I bought was outdated and needed window repairs ( windows wouldn’t stay up when opened) and new windows installed in some areas of the home. In addition Alex installed additional locks on all my windows for added security. Through out the process Alex showed up on time, kept me involved in the process. Alex defineitly showed pride in his work which is all any home owner hopes for anyone working on their home.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
