Very professional company! I had the pleasure of working with Joseph Perez Jr and his father. I found out about this company because my neighbor Albert Gonzalez, also did his driveway with this company and he forward the information to me. His driveway was in pretty bad shape with allot of Oak tree roots piercing through his asphalt driveway, and now he has a brand new driveway. This company was on "top of the ball" 24/7 with my driveway, they would always answer my calls and texts right away, about any questions I had during the project and before and after it was completed. Phoenix did some work on my asphalt driveway, removed allot of roots that had damaged my driveway, and dug a 24" trench to add new electrical to the front of my home with two different PVC pipe sizes. The entire job was done with a permit, that was approved by Miami-Dade County, and I was only charged $150.00 for the permit fees! I am getting my driveway seal-coated within the next 2 or 3 months by these gentlemen as well and I would definitely hire them again in the future if I may need to, and would definitely refer this company. Excellent work gentlemen, Thank you

The definition of exceptional is: "unusual; not typical; unusually good; outstanding." I believe that exceptional is the perfect word for describing the experience I just had on my project with Al and the crew of FL Restoration Services. My issue was one that I was very concerned about. Water was leaking into my home through cracks in the cement where a wall met the foundation slab. As it turned out, the builder had not done a very good job of laying the original foundation. As result of the leakage, part of a beautiful Acacia floor was destroyed and was removed. It's worth noting that I had just completed renovations of the home and the floor was brand new. The root cause of the issue was that an increase to irrigation on that side of the house exploited a problem that has likely been there for years. Al contacted me immediately and made arrangements to view the job site in order to evaluate the work and to develop an estimate. From the beginning, it was obvious to me that Al was a professional and that he was making my needs the focus of his plan. Al thoroughly explained the issue to me and what he wanted to do in order to solve the problem. His explanations were understandable to me which is saying a lot considering I am ignorant of most construction related topics. Al scheduled a time to complete the work that was convenient to my schedule. On the first day that the work was to be performed, he was on time and even called to let me know that he was on his way. Throughout the project, he routinely brought me in to show me what was being done and to explain why. This only increased my confidence in him and his team. In addition to "leak proofing" my foundation, Al was able to re-sand and seal a new paver walkway while he was here. A final benefit of the experience was that you would never know that any work has been performed. The job site was left in an immaculate state. Luckily for me, I will be able to leverage his company to perform some house painting when my windows are replaced next month. Additionally, he will be repairing, sealing, and re-painting my driveway and pool deck. I am very much looking forward to having that work completed and am confident that I will be pleased with the outcome. I cannot over recommend Al and the folks at FL Restoration Services. If you want a partner who is polite, professional, punctual, reasonably priced, and makes your needs their their most important consideration, you owe it to yourself to hire them. I have given Al permission to use me as a reference if someone who like to discuss my experience.

I cannot even begin to tell you how impressed I have been with this company. I've used them for flooring installation, painting 60 townhomes, construction of rough cut cedar pergolas, paver installation on driveways and a pool deck, fountain renovation, and I've referred them to several friends for residential renovation of single family homes and condominiums. Pricing has always beat the competitors, deadlines have always been met, and the quality of work has been exceptional.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.
