DeCosta wasn’t cheap enough for the stress of the language barrier (he doesn’t speak English), craftsmanship, professionalism, and customer satisfaction. The biggest blow was deceiving me. He told me that I would not need quarter round when there was time to get it ahead of the baseboard installation. He ghosted me on the day that he said he would come over to look at it. Worse than that AND the crooked, 3/4 inch thick line of caulk where the tile meets the tub (because his guy did not set it straight before he started tiling the shower) was his attempt to sell me on the wrong underlayment for the floor tile. I had to research and advocate for the correct material. It’s like going to the doctor and telling him how to operate on you. He would have likely profited and it would have been more convenient for him to use the material that he suggested. It would have been disastrous. It was a red flag. The first red flag was not giving me an estimate in writing. He does not use letterhead. He expected to leave the trash on my balcony for a week after he was paid in full. There is no telling if he even would have come back at all. I had to involve Thumbtack for him to remove it, as well as to return money for a job he decided not to do. He offered nothing for the hole his guy made in the balcony screen. He said he would install bathroom accessories as a courtesy and never did. The extra star is for the thin line of grout between the tile - let’s hope it holds up over time, the demo of the old tub/tile, lining the floor with paper after the tile was installed, and choosing the baseboards.
