About
*NOTE: ONLY AVAILABLE FOR ONLINE LESSONS* Hey there! My name is Jon, I am a drummer, bandleader, composer, and teacher with an unusual background that has helped form and inform my musical interests and output. I have studied with many great teachers including John Yarling of the University of Miami, John Ramsay, who I studied with while attending Berklee College of Music, and most recently, with jazz greats Kendrick Scott and Jeff Ballard. Additionally, I have been fortunate enough to perform with some great bands including a tour with world class fusion group Indialucia as part of the Festival of Inner Peace, performing in Chicago, Indiana, Cincinnati, and Detroit (2016). More recently, I had the opportunity to perform as part of internationally-touring band Seven Eyes, first in Switzerland, and then in London as part of the 2018 London Jazz Festival. I have also performed with my own bands in Boston and South Florida. Additionally I have performed in various settings in Switzerland, Puerto Rico, and France since 2019. As a music teacher in South Florida, I have taught students as young as 3, and as old as 55+. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing students accomplish things on the drum set they didn't think they could, at any age! On drums I am experienced in teaching many styles -- including but not limited to -- rock, jazz, funk, hip hop, Latin, and Brazilian music. I am also comfortable teaching jazz and classical harmony, having taken all the core Berklee harmony classes, plus advanced elective harmony courses beyond that. HOW LESSONS WORK The first lesson is always free. In that lesson we can discuss the student's musical interests, goals, and map out a general outline of how lessons will proceed. This lesson also can be used for you to get a feel for my teaching style, ask any questions you may have, and as an opportunity for you to decide if you want to commit to drum lessons with me. If you decide to continue, you pay up front for 4 lessons, and sign a contract committing to doing 8, 12, 16, or 20 lessons. After the lesson package is complete, you can sign on for another package, or terminate lessons at that time.

Jon is a great drum teacher. He always responds back quickly if I have a question on something between lessons. He does a great job of explaining all the details to help you understand how to play complicated grooves really easy. He teaches in a very methodical manner, making sure you understand each topic to its entirety before moving on to the next. I would highly recommend Jon for drum lessons from beginners to professionals.

Jon has been a great teacher. My skill level has increased in less than a month. He has corrected bad techniques that I picked up during self taught days. He is patient, easy to work with and focuses on technique and song practice. Would highly recommend.
