From day one, the correspondence between us has been consistent, timely and professional. I described what I needed and he was very productive in seeking people (piano accompaniment) to accommodate me. I look forward to working with this studio. If the quality of sound matches the positive communication experience thus far, it will be great!

Matt is extremely knowledgeable about various styles of guitar playing and explains it in a way which is easily learnable. He is also very good at determining the level of skill which you are at, and then teaching you specific lessons which bring you closer to your goals. His guitar/music theory explanations have expanded my knowledge of the guitar and this has made me a much more confident guitar player. I would definitely recommend taking lessons with him if you have any goals to learn or improve your guitar playing or theory or both!

Wow! What an amazing experience. We hired Matt for my 50th birthday bash. As someone who loves music and plays music I have high expectations. Matt blew me away, not just his music, which was amazing, but his gentle and passionate personality. It couldn't have gone any better and the crowd thought it was amazing as well. He played lots of great music from other artists and some of his own music which was great. If you get a chance to hear Matt I would recommend it. With his talent you never know how long he will be accessible for a small venue like ours. Thanks so much Matt for the best b-day party yet.

I first met Reggie Williams when we were both music students at FSU College of Music. I saw him perform at Club Downunder and was immediately inspired by his musicianship and lyricism. We became friends during our time as members of the FSU Vocal Jazz ensemble. Reggie's talent is matched only by his character and work ethic. He's the coolest kid, and one of the greatest musicians I've had the privilege to know.

Eric Copeland has produced three commercial music projects for me and several singles, plus a professional music video. Though his main focus and function has been to help with song selection, songwriting, hiring of players for the project, etc. he actually offers so much more. Not only is Eric good at connecting the artist with other resources and people, but can do much of the work himself (though he usually doesn't) but that gives him a great eye (and ear) for the whole project from beginning to end, including album design and website design to match the project. Besides all his skill, he is extremely easy to work with and great to hang out with and is one of the most visionary people I've ever worked with. Sounds too good to be true? Not really! He does juggle a lot of things but is one of the few people I know who can do that well. I highly recommend Eric as a Producer. He is as close to a manager as an independent artist can get. There are few out there like Eric.

I have known the producer here for quite sometime and there are only a few words that can accurately describe him, those are dedicated, talented and passionate. I couldn't be happier with the results I have gotten for the music I have recorded with Old Bitter and definitely recommend any and all artist to work with this studio.

I had a small mehndi party for my wedding and I am please to say that Lisa made it all worth while. She arrived early, was extremely courteous and polite. She started the henna work right on time. Unfortunately she was so good everyone wanted to get henna done so the time I quoted for her ended up running longer, but she stayed and finished everyone. Lisa is fast, but proficient and the quality of her henna is stunning. If you are questioning whether or not to hire her, I highly highly highly recommend you do. Her rates are very reasonable and you will be pleased with her work.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
