My fiance and I hired Johnathan for several projects in our first home - installing ceiling fans (which needed wiring), removing a hot tub, removing bathroom soffits and updating lighting, replacing a window with a door, removing a non-load-bearing wall. We were initially really excited to work with Johnathan after meeting for two walk-throughs. He told us that he did not use any sub-contractors, that he was licensed to do most things needed; that he worked Mon-Fri about 8am to 4pm. We felt like things started out very well, but that his initial level of professionalism declined as time went on. Things that went well: -All electrical work -Johnathan was willing to add on several small projects with minimal or no charge (replacing medicine cabinets, replacing lighting fixtures, minor garbage disposal repair) -Johnathan sent text and/or photo messages with any questions or updates on big projects -He was helpful with some design ideas to suggest fixes for issues in the house -Price was similar to other quotes we got, and we did not feel like there were any major changes to the price once work started. There was only 1 item where the price increased over what we discussed verbally; Johnathan offered to paint and cover material cost to make up for the difference. Things that we wish would have gone better: -Timeline. We were originally told 'about a week' for our projects to get done. It took a total of 18 work days, which was almost 4 weeks in all. Part of why it took so long was because Johnathan was only on site to work 12 out of those 18 days. The first week, he texted me about a personal emergency and career day at his child's school. The following weeks he gave little or no notice that he was not coming to work. To be fair, we did have a few things added on after that original 1 week quote (removing a wall, adding 2 more ceiling fans); but those projects were completed within 2 days and did NOT account for the 2.5 weeks extra. It also seemed like there were numerous days where he was only there for a few hours, and then one of the last days I saw him rushing around trying to finish everything while his son sat in the car. -Most days we found items around the house that should have been placed in the trash (fast food cups, cigarette box, razor blades, ?plaster residue in the lawn). The razor blades were most concerning because one of our pets could have been hurt with it. -I would NOT recommend having Johnathan paint. He told me his teenage son came to work at the house and was 'learning how to paint'. There was paint splatter on trim, cabinets, baseboards, countertop, floor, NEW light fixtures. Johnathan touched up and cleaned up some, but we still would have been better off without. He offered to come back again, but we were so frustrated at the end that we declined. We felt like Johnathan was very capable of doing quality work at a reasonable price, but were very disappointed with the timeline and lack of communication regarding days of missed work. At first we felt like we were valued and respected clients (which I would hope for since we spent almost $10K). At the end, we felt more like an inconvenience, and like we didn't receive a consistent level of professionalism from start to finish. I wish things would have gone better, most of the work was pretty good quality, but we were just left with a very negative impression overall.

Johnathan Herold of Ocean Construction and Plumbing just finished painting the outside of my house. Johnathan and his associate were very professional and courteous. They got right to work and finished my house when they said they would. Johnathan even fixed a couple of things I did not notice at no extra charge. They cleaned up after the work was done, and did a great job. I would highly recommend Johnathan Herold and Ocean Construction.

Johnathan was great. He responded within hours of me posting on Thumbtack. He made himself available to fit my schedule and he performed the work in a most timely fashion. I would recommend him to anyone that needs work done on their home. He is a one stop shop because he is licensed in every area for your home. He was professional and he also offered the best price of anyone who quoted me. He was very fair and his work was second to none.

During our first conversation this contractor acted like he was eager to come out and give me a quote. I called him back and barely two seconds into the conversation he rudely said he was not interested and hung up.
