About this pro

How does your business stand out?

Because I am truly a synergist. What I mean by that is that I am a Motivational Speaker, a Naturopathic Doctor, an Ayurvedic and Reiki Practitioner, a Licensed Massage Therapist, Qi Gong and Cooking Instructor and more. When I work with clients, I blend the best of what I've learned to best serve them because each modality on its own has its limitations. I do what I love and I love what I do. More importantly, I do what I do because the Holistic Healing Strategies that I use completely reversed and healed the COPD that ruled my life for over 20 years. So I am a true believer. You can read my story on my website.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I often say that I don't create dependency; I create butterflies. I ease my clients into their cocoon and then encourage them and keep them on the path while they transform into butterflies. So I love this process of seeing them finally recognize that they are special, lovable and that they have something unique to offer to the world. At that moment, when my client begins to believe in their potential, when they transform from needing help to being an inspiration to others, that is what I love the most about my job. I am honored to be a part of another person's evolutionary process.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes I take all sorts of continuing education courses. I am a Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor which requires that I take continuing education courses every year. I am also a Certified Natural Health Professional and a Licensed Massage therapist which requires that I take 30 hours of continuing education credits every other year, so essentially, I'm always learning more about health and healing. I'm curious by nature so I always have more continuing education credits than I need. My favorite areas to study are Qi Gong, Therapeutic Massage, Ayurvedic Therapies and deeper levels of CranioSacral Therapy. At some point I would like to become a yoga teacher as Qi Gong and Yoga complement each other so well--they make the perfect married couple.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
As a young child, I experienced a series of emotional traumas. The following winter, I developed a terrible case of bronchitis (a COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and was afflicted with it every winter of my childhood into adulthood. Eventually, I had to be heavily medicated with pharmaceutical narcotics because my cough caused internal bleeding. Each year my doctors gave me stronger medication, and each subsequent year, the bronchitis would come back worse! In addition, the doctors pumped me full of antibiotics which pretty much ruined my digestive system. By my late 20's, I had adrenal fatigue, my body was racked with pain, I was so congested that I could barely breathe, and it seemed as if EVERYTHING I ate gave me gas - and I'm talkin' 'bout the methane kind, ya'll! Desperate for answers, I began to study Ayurveda and other holistic practices which filled me with optimism for the first time in my life. I learned that what you can "get" you can "un-get." I am living proof that you can truly reverse the course of dis-ease. I no longer have chronic bronchitis, pain or adrenal fatigue, and I've successfully rebuilt my digestive system. Oh, and as a by-product of getting healthy, I lost a bunch of weight and got my self-esteem back too!
What types of customers have you worked with?
Public Speaking, usually in the form of workshops, seminars and retreats; Group and individual holistic health consultations; Family interventions; Qi Gong instruction, Therapeutic massage, especially for people who have soft tissue injuries; helping people get healthy so that they no longer have a need to take medication; Writing meal plans for families or providing meal plans/recipes for the chefs at a workshop where I am the presenter; Pancha Karma therapies
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I recently used Pancha Karma to help one of my clients (who is a triathlete) wean herself off of Cymbalta. Pancha Karma is an Ayurvedic Therapy that means "5 Actions" and it is used to restore balance in the body and mind. Cymbalta is a toxic pharmaceutical antidepressant drug that is designed to keep you "hooked for life. I'm so proud of her! This is why I do what I do. Here's part of my client's testimony "I was relying on my strategies from Phyllis to maintain a sense of groundedness. The meditation, the stretching, even my diet, all helped hugely. And it got so much easier to follow my new routine. By the fourth week, I can honestly say that I felt whole. Not depressed. I was able, and continue to be able, to handle what comes my way. Some days are easier than others. I am getting better at managing my negative thoughts and conserving my energy. I am healing emotionally and physically and am still on quite the journey to find out who I am. Phyllis has told me I am never alone. I believe her. I have been able to tap into such strong energy both in myself and in many people I am fortunate enough to interact with. And still, I am not depressed. It has been almost 2 months. I am looking forward to a fabulous season. I’m not injured and I am getting very strong both mentally and physically. " -- Terri Redman
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If you want to be healthier, less stressed and happier, if want to know the stages of dis-ease and how to reverse them, or if you want to know what's missing from your life and how to fill the void, if you want to know how to get from "knowing" the path to "walking" the path, then I am the practitioner for you. There is so much conflicting information out there, it is difficult to know which sources to trust. I believe in the win-win, so a customer who wants to amplify all that is good inside and forgive and release the negative would best benefit from my consultative services.
