Introduction: I have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry education and taught high school science for 2 years. With my master’s degree in reading and learning disabilities, I was a reading teacher and coach for 2 years. After becoming certified in elementary education, I taught first, second, and third grade to the same group of students, an experience I absolutely loved!
My passion is teaching elementary and middle school students how to read and write, solve math problems, and understand science. I enjoy creating student-centered lessons that focus on content standards, critical thinking, and subjects relevant to kids’ lives.
I also just wrote and published a wonderful book entitled, Life in the Everglades: A Young Naturalist’s Manual and Field Guide. I am currently working with other teachers to develop more lessons for the book and I also do book talks in elementary schools. Eventually I’d like to also present in middle schools and high schools.
I am trained in and have taught: guided reading (used to teach phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension); metacognition; Reader's and Writer's Workshop; Project CRISS (CReating Independence Through Student-owned Strategies); reading, writing, speaking, listening, language, and science curriculums, K-8.
