I think the difference is the ability to interact with the crowd, and the amount of energy I put into any event...I am not just a "jukebox music player" that sits behind the DJ booth and plays tunes. I interact with the crow by playing games, organizing trivia rounds, even lead some dances. The music choice also makes a difference, by subscribing to a monthly professional music provider I assure that all the top hits are ready to play and even better, they are clean versions of them. I make sure that music is appropriate for the occasion, and that when somebody ask me for a request, if I am not familiar with it, I preview it before playing it in front of the crowd.
What I like the most aout my job is that at he end of every event, call it a kids party or a wedding reception, or even a corporate event, the clients always come and tell me how great the party was...I have bride's parents come and tell me that was the best reception ever!
I like to feel the satisfaction of watching the brides and grooms smiles after the whole ordeal is over, and coming to the DJ booth and give me a hug for the reception well done! I like to make people happy!
