Introduction: *currently in relocation mode & unable to respond to new job inquiries. *
grew up with dogs as a child. We had 6 hunting beagles and 1 german shepherd. I personally have owned 9 boxer dogs in the last 40 years; always 2 at a time. Although, I did seek out to become a dog trainer by profession at one time, I have had no formal training. The K-9 Academy in Los Angeles had met my previous boxers and asked me, "Who taught you to train your dogs?" I asked "Why?" K-9 replied, "Because boxers are one of the most difficult dogs to train; because they are so intelligent and get so distracted." I replied, "I didn't know that. I trained them myself."
I have a super love for dogs. My dogs have never been hit, never been yelled at; and never bribed with treats. Dogs respond to love and leadership. They get confused if they don't understand us - but if they do, they just want to please us. Remember the movie "Horse Whisper"? That is a gift. I believe God gave me a gift to understand dogs and they to understand me. My dogs have been Pet Therapy dogs - the Hospital Staff loved my Clyde so much that they said, "Take him off leash & let him walk around." (in Chronic Care Ward in the hospital) My boxers have also been on the front page of newspapers in Pet Walk-a-Thons.
For the first time in years, I am without a dog. So, in a way; if I am able to help someone else train their dog; it will help many dogs from being homeless and/or found in shelters. I can't even look at the Humane Society web, for breaking down in tears. Currently, I am renting a place; and am not able to own a dog. Dogs can visit my home though..........
