FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
There are no rules or regulations as to how designers charge their clients. But I will share what I know with you, and you may negotiate with your decorator or designer based on your project and your budget. Interior designers should either have a degree or the equivalent in experience. Because they are well educated and experienced, they ultimately will save you time, money and help you avoid costly mistakes. Therefore, they are worth the extra money you will spend for their knowledge, wisdom and experience. Decorators may not have the experience or the trained eye that a designer possesses. They usually charge much less and charge by the hour. I would advise interviewing potential designers or decorators. Ask them to describe their style, how many years experience have they accumulated, how would they handle certain situations, especially if you are not available, price structures, retainers, billing/invoicing terms, contracts, and anything else you feel is pertinent to your project. Designers charge their clients several ways. Make sure you have it in writing and that you both agree to the terms.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure you connect well with your designer and that he/she really listens to your wants and needs.
