FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
This kind of work is not unlike any job in which practice is key to success. I remember getting started years ago; putting a CD on while driving my car and practicing my delivery for introductions or keynote moments for parties. Setting up 'the system' in a bedroom at my home to practice beat-matching music, and taking every opportunity to learn about my practice if someone was offering to assist. You never really stop learning in this line of work - I may think I'm great, but there's always something else I can or could add to make me better....always! I network with other DJs, go to conventions, take suggestions from clients, guests, and venue staff, and surf the net to compile ideas. You can never be the best - the great ones always want to do it better!
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I used to work in fast food - on a drive-through. One afternoon a guest manager happened to be running the show in the absence of the regular boss. She overheard me as I was talking to a client, noting my candor and verbal abilities along with my delivery of information. So she asked me if I was interested in being a DJ....I figured, why not? I was informed that her husband was a DJ and that he and I should meet and team up with one another. I agreed and began to travel the path to becomming one of the area's premier entertainers - a path I'm still enjoying 16 years after the fact!
