Lou Pekrul

I have recently retired from teaching in Pinellas County. My experience includes 32 years teaching third, fourth, and fifth grade, and eight years teaching eighth grade. I finished my career as a math coach working with teachers in at risk schools. My students routinely made gains on their state assessments. In 2008 I was selected as a finalist for teacher of the year in Pinellas County. When tutoring I use different approaches and hands-on materials when appropriate. I am also familiar with the Florida Standards and the approaches they use i really enjoy working with students to help them succeed in math. My approach is to try and determine where the student is having difficulty and why. It may be that they are missing skills that are necessary for success. That needs to be addressed before they can be successful. Seeing that success is what I enjoy about my work.
