About
My extensive background in veterinary medicine and rescue and rehabilitation sets me aside from other people in my profession. I am able to assess a situation with knowledge and make an informed decision about an animals care. I also have access to veterinarians after hours that can prevent an emergency visit to a local ER clinic. I like that every day is different and I learn something new each day.

Melanie has been my pet sitter and walker for the past 4 years. I have a wonderful but very spoiled Chihuahua (ChaChi) that sometimes has separation anxiety and fears thunderstorms. Melanie is always a phone call away and always knows how to fix my scared puppy. Chachi feels right at home when staying the day or night with Melanie and her wonderful dogs.

Melanie was a great sitter to our two cats. Right before we left on vacation, they both had tummy aches, but she gave us some tips to help them feel better and we felt totally comfortable leaving them in her care. She kept us updated daily with pictures and updates!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am always reading magazines, articles and books on vaccinations, natural care, nutrition, preventative medicine and dental care. I have an excellent relationship with my veterinarian and their office and am able to stay current on new products or new treatments that are available.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

The most common type of daily jobs are mid-day dog walks but most of the time my day changes with any non-routine care that arises.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Recently a client called me, when her veterinary clinic was closed, expressing concern that her basset hounds behavior was very abnormal. I went to this clients house and observed her dog and her abnormal behavior and realized her dog had many of the symptoms of a slipped disk. We were able to get the dog treatment before all feeling was lost in her rear legs or surgical intervention was necessary. Spending 2 years working for a board certified veterinary surgeon gave me the tools I needed to assess the dogs condition and make a suggestion on how to proceed with veterinary care. The dog was able to be treated on outpatient and is doing very well now.
