Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I’ve been a private tutor for the past nine years and I’ve taught college level classes, including statistics, for five years. I have my masters in industrial and organizational psychology and I’m finishing my Ph.D. at USF. My specialty areas include math up to calculus, GRE prep, and SAT prep. I missed one question on the GRE math overall and scored in the 98th percentile on my math SAT. I’m invested in all of my clients and my main reason for tutoring is solely the client. I work around your needs and specific circumstances, and make sure I’m teaching in the most effective way. Since I’ve taught undergrad students, my teaching has evolved and I understand that a concept may need to be explained in a few different ways for it to click for each student. My favorite part of tutoring is seeing my students understand a difficult concept and making them feel empowered and confident in their own abilities and what they’ve learned in tutoring.

I cannot say enough how much I valued Samantha as a tutor. I have had many tutors in the past (10+ in my lifetime) and Sam stood out to me, as she took the time to work through my own test anxiety in order to get my GRE score higher. This work is so important and is NOT common in tutors at all. She went above and beyond, she took notes for me outside of necessary GRE tutoring sessions, and catered to what I specifically wanted to focus on. She was also knowledgable about exactly what GRE textbooks to get over others, because it is really hard to find which textbook is the best out of the plethora of options at the bookstore. She made this exam significantly less scary and taught me so many tricks that helped me boost my score significantly. She is an incredible mentor too and helped me through the process of applying and for graduate school programs (looked over my resume, made suggestions, read over emails before I sent them to professors, etc.) Keep in mind, she was just hired as my tutor for the GRE and STILL did this for me. Sam is the type of person who goes above and beyond for a student, and delights in seeing a person learn and grow. If you’ve read this review up until the end, you should stop searching for other tutors and reach out to Sam ASAP. My life was seriously changed for the better because of her help.

Samantha is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. After a few tutoring sessions, my daughter’s 9th grade math grade improved – as did her confidence. Samantha Establishes a strong rapport with the children that she works with and works on building confidence as well. We are going to hire her for both of our children the school year. I highly recommend Samantha. She is the best tutor we’ve ever had!

Great job with tutoring for my son. Was honest and open when she felt he was ready for the test. Didn’t try to extend the time beyond what was necessary.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I’ve always tutored my peers, including elementary school, and I realized I loved using my knowledge to help others. I continued to tutor through college and tutored middle school students as well as college students in my economics classes. When I went to grad school in 2013 I was thrown into a classroom and had to create my own lesson plans, teaching style, etc. After numerous years teaching classes, I’ve come to learn how different individuals approach problems and that someone may need a concept explained in a variety of ways. Students often came to my office hours for extra help, which only solidified my love of teaching one on one and watching someone’s eyes light up when they finally understand a concept that previously seemed impossible.
