FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Half hour lessons are $25, and the time I recommend unless you are an advanced student. This generally amounts to $100/month. Payment is expected a month in advance at the first lesson of each month. I do offer some discounts: 10% off if you pay for a semester (16 weeks) of lessons in advance, or 15% off if you pay for a year of lessons (40 weeks) in advance. Siblings will be given a 10% discount for each student past the first (ie Jane Doe is $100/month, John Doe and Jimmy Doe are each $90/month).
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will talk with you (via email or phone, depending on preference) prior to your first lesson about your or your child's desires and expectations. I might suggest some activities to do, or books to acquire. For young children, or students with no prior musical and/or knowledge of piano, I will have books to look at in the first lesson, and will NOT suggest anything to buy until AFTER the first lesson. This is so I can observe you at the piano, and see what style you/your child seems to work best with.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
After begging my mom for a year or so, I began taking piano lessons at 6, and I haven't stopped playing since! As a child, I participated and placed in solo piano and concerto competitions, studio recitals, multi-keyboard recitals (4+ keyboards performing different parts together), and studied with well respected college professors during summer music camp. As a college student, I began performing chamber music repertoire as well as my own solo repertoire, accompanied both singers and instrumentalists, and traveled abroad several times to participate in piano festivals and competitions. I studied organ and violin while pursuing my Masters degree, and as I have continued my practice of them, am now well versed in these instruments. My specialization for my Masters degree was piano pedagogy, so I have had extensive instruction in what goes in to a good lesson, and what qualities help make an effective teacher.
