We had George complete two jobs for us; replacing a door lock/handle and repairing our staircase spindles. We were very pleased with his quick response, timeliness, and the quality of his work. Moreover, his rates are very reasonable and there were no “surprise” fees. Refreshing to find someone who takes pride in their work!

I had I sliding glass door installed in my shower and it looks great! Very professional, great work quality and excellent value. I the only thing I would change is I wish I would have been notified that my installer was running about an hour late. He did respond promptly after I asked whereabouts though. Overall I would definitely recommend to a friend.

Ray is a very experienced craftsman. He is a super diagnostician which enables him to find the best solution to a problem quickly. He is very fair and does excellent work. He worked on a pocket door, a side door in the garage and a gutter problem. I would hire him again in a jiffy. He is excellent. and his prices are reasonable. Here is a good craftsman with integrity, a combination that is very difficult to find. He is a straight shooter.

Very professional dealings! Emails were grammatically correct and not text talk (I received bids from companies in text talk (i.e. u instead of you). Tony was quick to respond and answered all of our questions. He was able to rekey and reprogram all my locks (including garage door opener) and install a burglar bar on sliding glass door in a timely manner after closing. He was flexible with scheduling the time and willing to meet us after closing at 4pm the Friday before Christmas. We were happy with the service he provided and would recommend him to others.

We were extremely happy with AJ and his crew from JDE. We hired AJ to fix a front door for us that was previously done very incorrectly by another contractor. He tried to save us money by tweaking the door issues first. We decided we wanted the entire door/frame/knob completely redone. There was no pressure at all to go the more expensive route, he left the decision completely up to us. The quality of the work that was done and the materials used were extremely high. We were very, very happy with the outcome. Professionalism was extremely high as well. If he was going to be late, we were notified ahead of time. Every time I needed to speak to AJ, he returned my phone call or text, I didn't have to chase him down. He could have charged us a much higher rate for correcting the work that was done wrong by the other contractor, but he did not, the price he quoted us was more than reasonable, he did not charge us above the quoted price, and he did some extra things as well that we were not charged for. We are very happy to have finally found a reliable and responsible, friendly, trustworthy, very reasonably priced contractor, and we will absolutely be calling AJ for our future needs. You will not be sorry if you hire AJ from JDE Installations!!

Hire this handyman!! Great Thumbtack experience hiring Wade! Skilled, knowledgeable, friendly and priced quite reasonably. He was originally tasked to replace a few interior doors but I made a list of other things while he was working. He finished the doors, fixed the leaking toilet, replaced tile in the shower and finally got my sliding glass door to operate smoothly! I couldn’t have gotten this done without him! He impressed me and that’s not an easy thing to do. Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow! where to start... Well I think the first thing Jeff did for me at my house was cut out a small "mousehole" in the door to my laundry room just big enough for my cat to Enter through so that she could access her litter box but not my two dogs. Jeffrey didn't judge or question my request. He just took the door off, cut the hole, and reattached the door - all in about 15 minutes. It looks amazing and I get compliments about it all the time. From there Jeff has been my 'go to' man- He's done anything from hanging up curtains ( easy for him at 6'6",to fixing the electrical after I blew a fuse trying to replace some plugs. Jeff is affordable, friendly, professional, and pays attention to detail. Can't wait for something else to break so he can come and fix it!

Randy is a dependable, trust worthy contractor that does a great job at reasonable prices. He always showed up when he said he would. He installed 2 bathroom vanities, mirrors, light fixtures, towel bars etc. painted 3 bedrooms, walls, ceilings, baseboards and laid laminate floors in all 3 rooms. Hung a new screen door and skim coated a living room wall and painted it all in 6 days... I have already recommended him to friends and would have him come back to work for me anytime we need a great handyman. Thanks for a job well done......Bonnie & Dave

Amir was very helpful from the moment we first spoke- he took the time to tell me the best locks to work with, where to get it and how much they would cost. The technician came on time, made sure to reiterate the cost prior to starting the service and even tightened the door knobs around my home for me. Overall, a wonderful experience and I will be using them in the future.

Drew is awesome. I needed a screen on my sliding glass door replaced and he came out same day I called to quote. He knocked the job out while I was out of town on vacation knowing I needed it done for a Christmas party when I got back into town . He even told me we could settle up when I got back from vacation. Very stand up guy and someone you can trust. Highly recommended and I will be using him again for other projects!

I was visiting a friend in Tampa and we went to the beach. I accidentally lock my keys in the car and called SLS Locksmith to help unlock the car. They arrived quickly, unlocked the car door and I was on my way. Painless and inexpensive service with a smile. It's hard to find that type of service these days.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How does a locksmith open a locked door?

Locksmiths use specialized tools and techniques to open your door in the case of lockouts or lost keys. Trained locksmiths can pick your door lock with lock-picking tools such as a rake, a tension wrench, a half diamond or a hook. They may use a technique called bumping, which will work on pin tumbler locks, or as a last resort they may use a drill to remove your existing lock. The national average locksmith price ranges between $70 and $100. A locksmith can also replace your current lock system, re-key your locks if you have lost your keys, repair a broken lock, install a deadlock and more. Locksmiths not only help with front doors, they can help if you are locked out of your car, locked out of your mailbox, locked out of your shed … you name it. There may be an additional charge for emergency after-hours locksmith services. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have a deadbolt lock installed?

Installing a new deadbolt lock can improve your home security, especially if you think your current lock system has been compromised or there are unaccounted-for copies of your house keys in circulation. A professional locksmith can install a new deadbolt for you in a matter of hours. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Locksmith prices for installing deadbolts may be higher based on whether the professional provides the lock or you have it on hand, how many components the locking system includes, and how long the installation takes. The cost to purchase a lock yourself from a big-box store can range from approximately $70 to $225 or more, depending on quality and materials. Higher-security locks often take longer and therefore cost more to install.

How much does it cost to make a new key for a car?

Locksmiths’ prices for making new car keys can vary depending on the make of your car as well as the time of day and location. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100, but duplicating a key may cost as little as $30, while extraction a key stuck in the ignition, cutting a new key and programming the fob can cost much more.

You might need a new car key if you have lost your key, the key broke in the ignition, the key is bent or damaged, or you just want a duplicate in case of emergency. You can request a duplicate of a key you have on hand, or you can have a new key made or cut if you have lost your original car keys. If you need to replace lost keys, you’ll need to first provide proof that you are the owner of the car along with the vehicle identification number (VIN). If you’re just locked out of your car but don’t need a key made, a locksmith may charge $65 to get you back in. Locksmith car key services are often far more affordable than dealership prices for new keys.

How much does it cost for a car locksmith?

There are several reasons you may need a car locksmith. You may be locked out of your car (either with the keys inside or with no keys at all), you may have lost your car keys and need a new key, or you may want to make a duplicate car key. The national average locksmith price ranges from $70 to $100. Getting locked out of your car can be scary and overwhelming — especially if it’s cold and dark out. Fortunately, professional locksmiths provide round-the-clock assistance to help people in these circumstances.

Car lockouts are one of the main reasons people need a locksmith. Your locksmith’s price can depend on the type of car you have, the time of day (or night) it is, and where you are located. Locksmith pricing may be based on a flat rate, or pricing may be quoted to you after the locksmith determines the circumstances. For example, a flat rate for a car lockout could be $65 for standard vehicles. That price could be higher for after-hours or long-distance service, or service during extreme weather. If you have entirely lost your car keys, a locksmith can make you a new car key, but first they must verify that you are the owner of the car. Locksmiths can even program new car key fobs for you — often at a lower price than a dealership.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
