FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Flat prices, told to you before I start. There is no hourly meter running while I work. A straightforward on-site fix starts at $79, and the common jobs are quoted flat: new computer setup $129, or $219 with all your files moved over from the old machine; slow computer tune-up $109; virus and malware removal $129; Wi-Fi troubleshooting $99; new router setup $129; printer setup $89. If you add a second job while I am already there, the add-on price is lower than booking it separately. No trip fee inside my service area. And if I look at it and it turns out to be something I do not do, you pay nothing.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Tell me what is happening in a message: what kind of computer it is, what it is doing, and any error on the screen. A photo of the screen helps a lot. I will tell you what I think it is, what it will cost, and roughly how long it takes, before I come out. Then we pick a time, I come to you, and I do not leave until it works and you have seen it working with your own eyes. If it turns out to be something outside what I do, I will tell you honestly and point you to the right place instead of charging you to find out.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My background is in computer security, and that is where most of my hands-on experience comes from: malware, remote-access tools, account and password security, and cleaning up the mess left behind after someone is tricked by a fake support call. The rest of what I do is work I have been doing for years on my own and other people's machines: Windows and macOS setup and migration, home networking and Wi-Fi, printers, and simple hardware upgrades like SSDs and RAM.
