Richard is professional, thorough, punctual and economical, none of which I have experienced with the various architects, contractors and engineers concerning this project over the past four (4) years. I am looking forward to working with Richard and Arquitectura International as we expeditiously and meticulously complete this project.

Dr. Rosicki is an outstanding architect and a true professional. He went out of his way to work with us and was always courteous and very responsive, no matter how many times I called him with questions. He is very easy to work with and thinks out of the box to meet your needs. I am only sorry I didn't know him when I worked on past projects. I highly recommend Dr. Rosicki.

I think that hiring a good interior designer for your next project will save you lots of time as well as a few headaches. Architects and remodeling contractors are the folks to call for structural planning, while interior designers work out optimal room size, traffic flow and lighting. When it comes to choosing and coordinating the color schemes, paint finishes, cabinet styles and light fixtures that goes into that room, that’s where Syllis comes in. I’ve known her for awhile and besides having a great eye for details, she is extremely professional with her work, very creative, and is always concerned about the environment. Syllis will save you time of researching, and prevent some potentially messy missteps. What’s more, she can do everything from simply acting as a writing board for your ideas to undertaking more involved work, like buying great quality finishes, scheduling an installation and job supervision.

For me it is a pleasure to comment about my experience with this company. They designed my house of 5,700 s.f.completely from the preliminary stage to the last detail. Rosi's team (architect and engineers) did a good job. I wish that the project would have taken less time to finish it but then I understood that the extra time was necessary for all researches and details in reference to it to finish it professionally. They started in November 2013 and after all city reviews, permits & construction, the house was ready to live in June 2015. I'm very satisfied.

We are interested in adding a "mother-in-law" quarters to our home and Brian gave us a free consultation. He came to our house and discussed placement and possible costs as well as permitting, etc. Brian was very professional and gave us some great ideas to think about. We appreciated his professionalism and his expertise. We have placed the project on "hold" for now but, if and when we go forward, we will definitely call on Brian Kring.

My wife and I are building a 3000 SF custom home in Southwest Ranches (Broward) and we can both definitely say that Mike is the best architect would could have hoped for (and we interviewed many). He is always available to answer our questions and stays closely in touch with our general contractor to make sure that the building process is smooth and without any issue. As a real estate broker, I will not hesitate to recommend Mike and his team at Prism Architecture to any client of mine in need of a great and affordable architect. Can't wait to finish the house and invite him over for a drink!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do architects work?

Architects may work for an architecture or engineering firm, they may work for a government organization, they can work for a construction company, or they may be self-employed (freelance). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that architects spend a large amount of their working time in the home or company office: meeting with clients; creating reports and architectural drawings; and working with other architects and engineers. When not in an office, an architect is often at the construction site either as part of the development of plans or to ensure building progress is following the blueprint.

When a client interacts with an architect, it is typically to have them design drawings for the construction of a house or a building. If you are a client who has hired a large architecture firm, there may be a team of people working on your design. But if you are working with a freelance architect or a smaller firm, one person (or a small group) will take your concept and translate it into an architectural blueprint that a builder can use to construct a house. The plans will lay out everything from the depth of the foundation to the materials to use to the type of metal to be used in the reinforcement. Once the plans have been created and handed off to the builder, the architect may remain on the project — depending on budget — and oversee progress.

How do architects charge for their services?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary of an architect in 2016 was $76,930. This range included architects with every type of company as well as self-employed architects. Depending on the architect and whether they’re with a firm or independent, they may charge per hour or by the square foot, or they may charge a percentage of the total budget for a construction project. An hourly rate is typically used for smaller projects such as providing consultation, helping clients hone their concept before the design process begins, or drafting documents and plans. If an architect is working on an hourly basis on a larger project, there will usually be an agreed-upon cap on the number of hours they will work. For larger projects, such as new construction or total overhaul remodels, architects may charge a percentage of the total construction costs. The architect will usually set the percentage you will pay after the total cost of construction has been accounted for. Percentages can range within a firm depending on the extent of the services they’re providing. For example, a lower percentage of the total construction costs may include drafting and minimal consultation and guidance along the way, while a higher percentage could include on-site project management services with every detail attended to. Architects may also charge by the square footage of the project. The rate per square foot can vary depending on the individual’s training, the services they are providing, the complexity of the project, and other factors — such as obtaining permits. The national average cost to hire an architect is between $1,690 and $2,500.
