Hired on Thumbtack
After visiting, they quoted around $7,000 for the wall work and materials. When I questioned the enormous difference, they said the original estimate covered installation and assembly, and that framing had not been discussed—even though their opening message referenced a wall build-out.
I understand that estimates can change after an inspection, but this was a major disconnect between what was initially represented and what they ultimately quoted. They also declined to refund the $150 travel/estimate fee, saying it would only be applied toward the project if I hired them.
From my perspective, this felt like a bait-and-switch. I sought their expertise to clarify what the project required, and I left feeling misled. I chose not to hire them.
This is the first time I’ve experienced a problem like this on Thumbtack. Based on my experience, my advice is simple: run from this company. I would not recommend even getting a quote.
