3. Florida Danzan Ryu Jujitsu
- Serves Winter Springs, FL
"Been coming for nearly 2 years with my Wife to this tradition style Japanese DZR Jujitsu, which was the first Jujitsu taught to Americans in America, regardless of gender or nationality and started originally in Hawaii in the 40s.
This is an adult class held every Monday from 7:30 to 9:30pm.
Exercise intensity is light to medium.
Everyone is very nice, kind and cautious.
This is not geared for sport competition. It is designed heavily for a smaller our weaker person to use against a bigger or stronger attacker.
We train in many self defense techniques involving standing, kneeling and grappling, although we try to avoid heavy grappling because in real life bad guys or bullies often have other bad friends (and weapons) and by remaining on our feet or knees, we can transition to the next assailant with more options, escape all together or restrain until the threat is removed or authorities arrive. We're not trying to score points, we're trying to diffuse and protect... disable and disarm if at all possible... go home alive as safely as possible.
As such, training ultimately entails not only stopping an aggressor with appropriate measures, it also eventually includes incapacitating, disabling and disarming attackers using moves that are illegal in sports due to high risk of injury. Those are our choice to use to protect ourselves if the threat warrants it.
We're also taught how to communicate with authorities from a safe distance away from the threat, after the fact."
