Introduction: Hi, I was raised in a family of musicians, from my grandmother down through my parents and was surrounded with music my entire life. I graduated from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam with a degree in music education and taught K-12 general music in public schools for 18 years before becoming a K-12 building principal. I have taught private voice, guitar, and traditional piano for 25 years and Suzuki Piano for 20 years having studied with a Suzuki Piano master teacher. The Suzuki Piano Method is an educational approach to teaching piano to small children -- 3 to 10 years old. It is based on how children learn language. It is a rote method of learning that nurtures superior musical sensitivity through listening and motivation. Young children learn by listening, watching and repeating. With this method, students are easily motivated as they learn a large amount of familiar music in a very short time. Guitar -- I teach classical guitar on acoustic guitars for students eight years old and up using Aaron Shearer Classic Guitar Technique and Alfred d'Auberge and Morton Manus' "The New Guitar Course" by Alfred Music. I also teach voice lessons for students 10 to adult using the Vaccai Practical Method of Italian singing, classical vocal solos, folk and show tunes. I encourage voice students to sing with a choral group - in school, church or your community.

Kaye Mero was my son’s piano teacher while he was in high school. What she taught him went far beyond piano lessons. She ignited in him a passion for music that still burns brightly. Ms. Mero not only taught him the basics of how to play, but also exposed him to many types of music, opening his mind and building a great appreciation for everything from Beethoven to the Beatles. He took what he learned and applied it to other instruments and spent his years in high school involved in marching band, jazz ensemble, pep band and wind symphony. In his senior year, he was awarded the Patrick S. Gilmore award by his band director. In music, and with instruction from Ms. Mero, he has found his true calling. He is currently pursuing a music education degree with the intent of continuing in music therapy, so like Ms. Mero, he can share his love for music with others. We are grateful to her for starting him on his path.
