In most cases I have the ability to put the subject at ease. This is crucial in the process. Great headshots are about capturing an individual's essence--something genuine, unique or otherwise truthful. If the subject isn't operating from a relaxed state of mind, the tension will often hinder the creation of a great image. The satisfaction of making a great photograph. Every time it happens I experience fulfillment at a level matched by few other pursuits. The sensation, however, is fleeting and drug-like, so I must repeat the achievement again and again to get that buzz.

Jimi Lanham has got to be one of the most laid back people I've ever met, which is very important to me. He was very accommodating: I was able to set my own mood with music, he allowed me to have as many hair and make up test shots and the time needed to adjust, we talked about branding and what specific looks/tones/attitudes we (as a team) needed to produce, I never felt rushed and he made sure I was happy with my shots. The shots, his eye, are amazing. I had seen some of his other photography prior to his doing head shots and knew he was talented and that talent has just allowed him to find fruits in this arena as well. He may be new to headshot photography, but you would never be able to tell. If he's this good now, I can't wait to see what a ton of experience will give him!

I read. I also study the work and methods of industry paragons whom I admire.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've been shooting as a hobbyist / semi-pro for nearly 30 years. I simply couldn't resist the draw to become a full-on professional anymore. I love it.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
1) Great photography is 90% the result of the photographer and 10% the result of the model. 2) Smiling isn't about teeth, it's about eyes. 3) Stop trying to wrestle your face into submission and let it happen. The photographer should be able to do the rest.
